في حديث أثار اهتمام وسائل الإعلام، كشف الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب تفاصيل أول ليلة قضاها مع عائلته داخل البيت الأبيض، واصفًا اللحظة بأنها كانت «سريالية» ومليئة بالرهبة من المكان الذي وصفه بأنه «الأكثر تميزًا في العالم».
وخلال كلمته في حفل لجمع التبرعات لمشروع بناء قاعة الرقص الجديدة في المقر الرئاسي، تحدث ترمب عن انطباعه الأول بعد دخوله البيت الأبيض في يناير 2016، قائلاً: «بعد فوزي، صعدت أنا وميلانيا إلى الممر السكني، ونظرت إلى غرفة لينكولن وقلت لها: هل تصدقين هذا؟ نحن في البيت الأبيض، وتلك هي غرفة لينكولن».
وأضاف: «يستغرق الأمر وقتًا لتعتاد على المكان، ربما لم أعتد عليه حتى الآن. إنه موقع فريد حقًا، علينا أن نحافظ عليه بكل طريقة ممكنة».
وتطرّق ترمب في كلمته إلى مشروع القاعة الذهبية الجديدة في البيت الأبيض، الذي تبلغ تكلفته 250 مليون دولار، وتمتد مساحته إلى نحو 90 ألف قدم مربعة، موضحًا أنها ستُستخدم في الاحتفالات الرسمية وحفلات العشاء الكبرى، ومن المقرر الانتهاء منها قبل نهاية الولاية الرئاسية الحالية.
وشهد الحفل الذي أُقيم في القاعة الشرقية للبيت الأبيض، حضور نخبة من كبار المتبرعين ورجال الأعمال الذين يموّلون المشروع، من بينهم ممثلون عن شركات أمازون وآبل وقوقل ومايكروسوفت.
وقال ترمب أمام الحضور: «لدينا الليلة الكثير من الأساطير في القاعة، أنتم السبب في بناء أول قاعة رقص في تاريخ البيت الأبيض، وهذا فخر كبير لكم وللأمة».

During his speech at a fundraising event for the new ballroom construction project at the presidential residence, Trump talked about his first impression after entering the White House in January 2016, saying: "After my victory, Melania and I walked up the residential hallway, and I looked into the Lincoln Room and said to her: Can you believe this? We are in the White House, and that is the Lincoln Room."
He added: "It takes time to get used to the place; maybe I haven't gotten used to it yet. It is truly a unique site, and we must preserve it in every possible way."
Trump also addressed the new golden ballroom project in the White House, which costs $250 million and spans about 90,000 square feet, explaining that it will be used for official celebrations and grand dinner parties, with completion expected before the end of the current presidential term.
The event held in the East Room of the White House was attended by a select group of major donors and business leaders funding the project, including representatives from Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft.
Trump said to the attendees: "We have many legends in the room tonight; you are the reason for building the first ballroom in the history of the White House, and this is a great honor for you and for the nation."
