A British thief did not just break into a luxurious country house worth £1.5 million, but calmly sat down to make himself a pizza and drink coffee as if he were at home.

The accused, Aaron Hammond (30 years old), stole a Rolex watch and £600 in cash, in addition to a Citroën C3 Aircross belonging to the homeowner's son on the Isle of Wight.

Unexpected Confrontation

However, the owner of the mansion soon returned to find the doors wide open and her son's car moving. She was shocked when Hammond appeared behind the wheel and drove off, leaving her trapped between two vehicles in a shocking scene.

Arrest After Hours

After hours of chaos, the police arrested the thief in a stolen car outside his home, along with the money, watches, and keys. His fingerprints, along with the jacket he forgot at the mansion, led to his conviction.

Strange Justification

Hammond told the police that "voices in his head" prompted him to break in through an open window. Three psychological reports confirmed that he was experiencing a severe psychotic episode at the time of the incident.

Controversial Sentence

Despite the seriousness of the crime, the Isle of Wight court sentenced him to two years in prison, suspended, requiring him to undergo 20 days of rehabilitation and pay a £500 fine.

The judge explained that the lenient sentence was due to his "exceptional mental illness," warning that without it, he would have faced four years behind bars.
