فيتنام تُخلي مئات الآلاف قبل إعصار مدمر

The Vietnamese authorities began large-scale evacuation operations today (Sunday) as Typhoon Bolaven approached the coasts at a speed exceeding expectations, amid warnings of strong winds and heavy rains that could cause natural disasters.

Storm Strength

The Vietnam Meteorological Agency announced that the typhoon was only 200 kilometers east of the central coast, moving northwest at high speed, with expectations of making landfall this evening (Sunday) between Quang Tri and Nghe An provinces.

Severe Risks

The storm carries winds reaching speeds of 133 kilometers per hour, with waves exceeding one meter in height, in addition to heavy rains that may lead to flooding and landslides in mountainous areas.

Mass Evacuations

The city of Da Nang alone announced plans to evacuate more than 210,000 people, while the city of Hue is working to evacuate 32,000 of its coastal residents. Authorities have prohibited boats from sailing and ordered residents in hazardous areas to complete evacuations by 5 PM.

Flight Cancellations

The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the suspension of operations at four coastal airports, including Da Nang International Airport, and the rescheduling of a large number of flights until the danger has passed.
