أُلقى القبض على رجل من لونغ آيلاند، نيويورك بعد اتهامه ببيع منتجات نينتندو مزيفة بقيمة مليوني دولار عبر منصة أمازون، في واحدة من أكبر قضايا تقليد الأجهزة الإلكترونية التي شهدتها الولايات المتحدة أخيرا.
ووفقاً لتقارير مكتب المدعي العام لمقاطعة ناسو، فقد قام المتهم خلال سنوات عديدة ببيع مئات الآلاف من الإكسسوارات المزيفة لأجهزة نينتندو الشهيرة، مستخدماً عدة حسابات بائعين على أمازون. وقد اكتُشف الاحتيال بعد أن كشفت المنتجات عن أرقام تسلسلية وتصاميم خاطئة وأحرف يابانية غير دقيقة، ما كشف الطابع المزيف للبضائع.
ويواجه الرجل عقوبة قد تصل إلى 15 عاماً في السجن بتهم تتعلق بـ«المؤامرة وتقليد العلامات التجارية»، فيما اعتبر البعض أن طريقة تنفيذه للاحتيال على منصة عالمية دون معرفة كافية باللغة التي حاول تقليدها، دليل على تهور وغرور جنائي أكثر من كونه خطة ذكية.
A man from Long Island, New York, was arrested after being accused of selling counterfeit Nintendo products worth two million dollars on the Amazon platform, in one of the largest cases of electronic device counterfeiting seen in the United States recently.
According to reports from the Nassau County District Attorney's Office, the defendant had been selling hundreds of thousands of counterfeit accessories for the famous Nintendo devices over many years, using multiple seller accounts on Amazon. The fraud was discovered after the products revealed incorrect serial numbers, faulty designs, and inaccurate Japanese characters, which exposed the counterfeit nature of the goods.
The man faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison on charges related to "conspiracy and trademark counterfeiting," while some considered his method of executing the fraud on a global platform without sufficient knowledge of the language he attempted to imitate as evidence of recklessness and criminal arrogance rather than a smart plan.
