أعلنت السلطات الإكوادورية نجاح عملية أمنية كبرى أسفرت عن مصادرة 2.3 طن من الكوكايين في مدينة تولكان، عاصمة مقاطعة كارتشي الواقعة على الحدود مع كولومبيا، في عملية تفتيش أمنية قرب الحدود.
وخلال عملية دقيقة نفذتها الشرطة الوطنية الإكوادورية بالتعاون مع وحدات مكافحة المخدرات، في نقطة تفتيش على الطريق السريع القريب من الحدود، اكتشفت القوات الكميات الكبيرة من الكوكايين مخبأة داخل شاحنات صهريج قادمة من كولومبيا، إذ تستخدم عصابات التهريب أساليب متطورة مثل إخفاء الكوكايين في شحنات تجارية مثل الموز، الأخشاب، أو حتى المنتجات الغذائية، لتضليل السلطات.
وتمكّنت السلطات من رصد شاحنات صهريج مشبوهة كانت تُستخدم لنقل الكوكايين بطريقة مبتكرة للتحايل على الإجراءات الأمنية، وبعد تفتيش دقيق بمساعدة الكلاب البوليسية وتقنيات الكشف المتقدمة، عثرت الشرطة على الكمية الكبيرة من المخدرات مخبأة في خزانات معدلة داخل الشاحنات.
وألقت السلطات القبض على عدد من الأفراد المرتبطين بالعملية، بينهم سائقو الشاحنات، وهم الآن قيد التحقيق لتحديد ارتباطهم بشبكات تهريب دولية، إذ تُعد هذه العملية واحدة من أكبر ضبطيات المخدرات في الإكوادور هذا العام. وتحتل البلاد المرتبة الثالثة عالميًا في مصادرة المخدرات بعد كولومبيا والولايات المتحدة، بإجمالي حوالى 300 طن من المخدرات في عام 2024.
وتقع الإكوادور بين كولومبيا وبيرو، أكبر منتجي الكوكايين في العالم، مما يجعلها ممرًا رئيسيًا لتهريب المخدرات نحو الأسواق الدولية، خصوصًا الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا، وتشير التقارير إلى أن كولومبيا، التي أنتجت حوالى 2,600 طن من الكوكايين في عام 2023، تُعد المصدر الأساسي للمخدرات التي تمر عبر الإكوادور.
وتعتبر تولكان، الواقعة على الحدود الشمالية للإكوادور نقطة ساخنة لعمليات التهريب بسبب قربها من المناطق الريفية في كولومبيا التي تسيطر عليها كارتلات المخدرات، وقد شهدت المنطقة في السنوات الأخيرة تصاعدًا في أنشطة التهريب، مما دفع السلطات الإكوادورية إلى تعزيز الإجراءات الأمنية، بما في ذلك نشر وحدات متخصصة مثل «الوحدة الوطنية للمعلومات عن الموانئ والمطارات» و«الفريق الخاص المتنقل لمكافحة المخدرات».
The Ecuadorian authorities announced the success of a major security operation that resulted in the seizure of 2.3 tons of cocaine in the city of Tulcán, the capital of the Carchi province located on the border with Colombia, during a security inspection near the border.
During a precise operation carried out by the Ecuadorian national police in collaboration with anti-drug units, at a checkpoint on the highway near the border, the forces discovered large quantities of cocaine hidden inside tanker trucks coming from Colombia. Smuggling gangs use advanced methods such as concealing cocaine in commercial shipments like bananas, timber, or even food products to mislead the authorities.
The authorities were able to track down suspicious tanker trucks that were being used to transport cocaine in an innovative way to circumvent security measures. After a thorough inspection with the help of police dogs and advanced detection techniques, the police found the large quantity of drugs hidden in modified tanks inside the trucks.
The authorities arrested several individuals linked to the operation, including the truck drivers, who are now under investigation to determine their connections to international smuggling networks. This operation is considered one of the largest drug seizures in Ecuador this year. The country ranks third globally in drug seizures after Colombia and the United States, with a total of about 300 tons of drugs in 2024.
Ecuador is situated between Colombia and Peru, the world's largest cocaine producers, making it a key transit route for drug trafficking to international markets, particularly the United States and Europe. Reports indicate that Colombia, which produced about 2,600 tons of cocaine in 2023, is the primary source of drugs that pass through Ecuador.
Tulcán, located on Ecuador's northern border, is considered a hotspot for smuggling operations due to its proximity to rural areas in Colombia controlled by drug cartels. The region has witnessed a rise in smuggling activities in recent years, prompting Ecuadorian authorities to strengthen security measures, including deploying specialized units such as the "National Port and Airport Information Unit" and the "Mobile Special Anti-Drug Team."
