اعتقلت الشرطة الأسترالية، اليوم (الإثنين)، رجلاً بعد أن اصطدمت سيارته بالقنصلية الروسية في سيدني، وفق مصادر أمنية في الشرطة ووسائل إعلام محلية.
وأظهرت لقطات تلفزيونية بثتها قنوات محلية، سيارة مهشمة النافذة متروكة بجوار سارية علم روسي، قالت وسائل إعلام محلية إنها كانت في مقر القنصلية الروسية في ضاحية «وولاهرا» في سيدني.
وقالت شرطة «نيو ساوث ويلز»، في بيان، إن أفراد الأمن استجابوا بعد الثامنة صباحاً بقليل (2200 بتوقيت غرينتش) لبلاغات عن سيارة غير مصرح بها متوقفة في ممر عنوان في شارع «فولرتون» يتوافق مع موقع القنصلية الروسية.
وأضافت الشرطة أن أفراد الأمن حاولوا التحدث إلى السائق قبل أن يقود سيارته باتجاه بوابات المبنى.
وأشار البيان إلى أنه تم اعتقال رجل يبلغ من العمر 39 عاماً، في حين أصيب شرطي يبلغ من العمر 24 عاماً بجروح في يده.
The Australian police arrested a man today (Monday) after his car collided with the Russian consulate in Sydney, according to security sources in the police and local media.
Television footage broadcast by local channels showed a smashed window car left next to a Russian flagpole, which local media reported was at the premises of the Russian consulate in the "Woollahra" suburb of Sydney.
New South Wales police stated in a statement that security personnel responded shortly after 8 AM (2200 GMT) to reports of an unauthorized vehicle parked in a driveway on "Fullerton" Street, which corresponds to the location of the Russian consulate.
The police added that security personnel attempted to speak to the driver before he drove his car towards the building's gates.
The statement noted that a 39-year-old man was arrested, while a 24-year-old police officer sustained injuries to his hand.
