عُثر على السائحة البريطانية جيسيكا كاريد هوپكنز (34 عاماً) جثة هامدة بعد تعرضها لطعنات قاتلة في أحد المتنزهات العامة قرب العاصمة الكمبودية بنوم بنه، في جريمة وصفتها الشرطة بأنها ناجمة عن خلاف عاطفي غامض.
وأعلنت السلطات الكمبودية توقيف كيديكيلا نغاندا غلودي (33 عاماً)، وهي صديقة للضحية من أصول كونغولية، بعد أقل من 17 ساعة من التحقيق. وأوضحت شرطة بنوم بنه أن المتهمتين كانتا تقيمان معاً في شقة واحدة، وتوجّهتا معاً بدراجة نارية إلى منطقة «كوه بيتش»، حيث اندلع شجار بينهما انتهى بمقتل هوپكنز بعد أن تلقت طعنات متكررة في العنق.
وأكدت الشرطة أنها عثرت على السلاح المستخدم في مسرح الجريمة، قبل أن تتعقب المشتبه بها وتلقي القبض عليها داخل صالون تجميل وسط العاصمة، في مشهد وثقته مقاطع فيديو انتشرت عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي.
وأشارت التحقيقات الأولية إلى أن الدافع وراء الجريمة قد يكون الغيرة العاطفية، وسط شبهات بوجود «رجل» أثار توتر العلاقة بين المرأتين.
الخبر هزّ أوساط الجالية الأجنبية في كمبوديا، حيث نعاه أصدقاؤها بعبارات مؤثرة عبر وسائل التواصل، واصفين هوپكنز بأنها «إنسانة طيبة وملهمة كرّست حياتها لمساعدة الآخرين».
وبحسب صحيفة التلغراف فإن وزارة الخارجية البريطانية أكدت أنها تتابع القضية عن كثب وتقدم الدعم لعائلة الضحية بالتنسيق مع السلطات الكمبودية.

The Cambodian authorities announced the arrest of Kidikela Nganda Gloudi (33 years old), a friend of the victim of Congolese descent, less than 17 hours after the investigation began. Phnom Penh police clarified that the two suspects had been living together in the same apartment and had traveled together by motorcycle to the "Koh Beach" area, where a fight broke out between them that ended with Hopkins being killed after receiving multiple stab wounds to the neck.
The police confirmed that they found the weapon used at the crime scene before tracking down the suspect and arresting her inside a beauty salon in the capital, in a scene captured by videos that spread across social media.
Initial investigations indicated that the motive behind the crime may be emotional jealousy, amid suspicions of the presence of a "man" who stirred tension between the two women.
The news shocked the foreign community in Cambodia, where her friends mourned her with touching words on social media, describing Hopkins as "a kind and inspiring person who dedicated her life to helping others."
According to The Telegraph, the British Foreign Office confirmed that it is closely monitoring the case and providing support to the victim's family in coordination with the Cambodian authorities.
