This morning (Tuesday), the town of Bourbongka in Victoria, Australia, witnessed a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of two police officers and left a third injured with non-life-threatening wounds, while a team of ten officers was executing a search warrant.

Victoria Police Commissioner Mike Bush stated that the attacker, who is known to the police, fired heavily before fleeing the scene alone while carrying a collection of weapons. He confirmed that search operations are still ongoing. He also noted that the attacker's partner and children are wanted for questioning.

Local authorities have ordered residents to stay inside their homes, while public buildings and schools have been closed, including Bourbongka Primary School, which activated its emergency plan and confirmed the safety of all students and teachers. Significant security reinforcements and a police helicopter were also seen flying over the area.

It is worth mentioning that incidents of gun violence are rare in Australia, which tightened gun laws following the Port Arthur massacre in 1996. However, the Australian police have lost 14 officers since 2020, including an officer who was killed in Tasmania last June while executing a court warrant.
