أعلنت السلطات النيجيرية، اليوم، فقدان أكثر من 40 شخصا، بعد حادث غرق قارب في ولاية «سوكوتو» في شمال غربي البلاد.
وقالت الوكالة الوطنية لإدارة الطوارئ في نيجيريا في بيان، إن القارب الذي كان يحمل أكثر من 50 راكبا انقلب بينما كان في طريقه إلى أحد الأسواق، مشيرة إلى عناصر الإنقاذ تمكنوا من إنقاذ نحو 10 أشخاص، فيما لا يزال أكثر من 40 راكبا في عداد المفقودين.
يشار إلى أن حوادث القوارب شائعة في الممرات المائية في نيجيريا بسبب الاكتظاظ وسوء الصيانة، وخاصة خلال موسم الأمطار السنوي عندما تفيض الأنهار والبحيرات.
Nigerian authorities announced today the loss of more than 40 people after a boat capsized in the state of "Sokoto" in the northwest of the country.
The National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria stated in a statement that the boat, which was carrying more than 50 passengers, overturned while on its way to a market, noting that rescue teams managed to save about 10 people, while more than 40 passengers are still missing.
It is worth mentioning that boat accidents are common in Nigeria's waterways due to overcrowding and poor maintenance, especially during the annual rainy season when rivers and lakes overflow.
