أعلنت واتساب، تطبيق التواصل الاجتماعي التابع لشركة ميتا، أن روسيا تحاول تقييد خدماتها بسبب التزامها بتوفير اتصالات آمنة ومشفرة للمستخدمين، وتعهدت الشركة بمواصلة جهودها لضمان استمرارية خدمات التشفير في روسيا.
وأفادت واتساب في بيان: «تطبيقنا يوفر خصوصية عالية بفضل التشفير التام، ويقاوم محاولات الحكومات لانتهاك حق الناس في التواصل الآمن، وهو السبب وراء محاولة روسيا حظره عن أكثر من 100 مليون مستخدم روسي».
وأضافت أنها ستواصل العمل لتوفير الاتصالات المشفرة للجميع، بما في ذلك في روسيا.
من جانبها، بدأت روسيا تقييد بعض مكالمات واتساب وتيليغرام، متهمة المنصتين الأجنبيتين بعدم التعاون مع السلطات في قضايا الاحتيال والإرهاب.
وأكد تيليغرام أن مشرفيه يستخدمون أدوات الذكاء الاصطناعي لمراقبة الأجزاء العامة من المنصة، حيث يتم حذف ملايين الرسائل الضارة يوميًا.
وأوضح تيليغرام في بيان:«نحارب بفعالية الاستخدامات الضارة لمنصتنا، بما في ذلك الدعوات للتخريب أو العنف والاحتيال».
يأتي هذا التوتر في إطار نزاع مستمر بين روسيا ومنصات التكنولوجيا الأجنبية بشأن المحتوى وتخزين البيانات، تصاعد منذ بدء العملية العسكرية الروسية في أوكرانيا في فبراير 2022، ويتهم النقاد روسيا بالسعي لتوسيع سيطرتها على الفضاء الإلكتروني في البلاد.
WhatsApp, the social media application owned by Meta, announced that Russia is trying to restrict its services due to its commitment to providing secure and encrypted communications for users, and the company pledged to continue its efforts to ensure the continuity of encryption services in Russia.
WhatsApp stated in a statement: "Our application provides high privacy thanks to end-to-end encryption, and it resists attempts by governments to violate people's right to secure communication, which is why Russia is trying to block it from more than 100 million Russian users."
It added that it will continue to work to provide encrypted communications for everyone, including in Russia.
For its part, Russia has begun to restrict some WhatsApp and Telegram calls, accusing the two foreign platforms of not cooperating with authorities on issues of fraud and terrorism.
Telegram confirmed that its moderators use artificial intelligence tools to monitor the public parts of the platform, where millions of harmful messages are deleted daily.
Telegram explained in a statement: "We effectively combat the harmful uses of our platform, including calls for sabotage or violence and fraud."
This tension comes amid an ongoing dispute between Russia and foreign technology platforms over content and data storage, which has escalated since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in February 2022, with critics accusing Russia of seeking to expand its control over the digital space in the country.
