من «سوزي الأردنية» إلى «مداهم».. حملة أمنية تطارد مشاهير «تيك توك» في مصر

The Egyptian security agencies launched a wide-ranging campaign today (Saturday) targeting several content creators on the "TikTok" platform, following accusations of publishing content that contradicts public morals and values. The campaign resulted in the arrest of personalities such as the blogger "Suzy the Jordanian" in the First Settlement in New Cairo, and "Um Sajda" and "Um Makkah," in addition to the content creator "Madahem" in Qalyubia.

The arrested content creators were charged with publishing videos containing indecent language and misusing social media platforms. Legal actions were also taken against others whose identities have not been disclosed, based on complaints from citizens and lawyers accusing them of promoting "inappropriate" content.

Drugs and foreign currencies found with "Madahem"

The Ministry of Interior revealed that "Madahem," who was arrested in the area of the Qalyubia police station, was found in possession of amounts of money in local and foreign currencies, gold jewelry, and quantities of hashish and opium. "Madahem" admitted to publishing videos to increase views and generate profits, asserting that the drugs were for personal use.

Suzy the Jordanian accused of "indecency"

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior, in a statement, disclosed details regarding the arrest of content creator Suzy the Jordanian, confirming that it was based on several complaints against her for publishing videos on social media that included indecent language and violated public morals and misused social media.

The Ministry of Interior clarified that after legal procedures were taken, the mentioned individual was arrested in the area of the Matariya police station in Cairo. Upon confrontation, she admitted to publishing the aforementioned videos to increase viewership and achieve financial profits, and legal actions were taken.

Deadline for "TikTok" in Egypt

This campaign coincides with statements from the head of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in the House of Representatives, Deputy Ahmed Badawy, who confirmed that the committee granted the "TikTok" platform a three-month deadline to monitor content and rectify violations, otherwise the application will be banned in Egypt based on the Information Technology Law and the Cybercrime Law.

Deputy Ahmed Badawy noted that the committee held an extensive meeting with the government and the regional representative of "TikTok," demanding the platform improve its content monitoring mechanisms, emphasizing that "some content on TikTok violates the regulations and standards and is considered contrary to the Information Technology Laws and Cybercrime Laws."

Ban on "TikTok" among the options considered

The head of the Communications and Information Technology Committee in the House of Representatives stressed that banning the platform remains an option if violations continue, noting that the parliament, in cooperation with the government, will enact deterrent legislation to punish violators, with the assurance that any violating post will be immediately blocked.

Since 2020, Egypt has witnessed repeated security campaigns targeting content creators on social media platforms, particularly "TikTok," with charges including "disrupting public morals" and "violating Egyptian family values," as part of its efforts to protect societal values.

"TikTok" is viewed in Egypt as a controversial platform, used by millions of young people to express themselves, but it faces accusations of promoting content that contradicts conservative values. The Cybercrime Law enacted in 2018 has empowered authorities to pursue violators.
