محاكمة صادمة هزّت الرأي العام في ولاية كولورادو الأمريكية بعد اتهام طبيب أسنان بقتل زوجته بتسميمها تدريجياً، إذ أراد التخلص منها لشعوره بالضجر من الزواج، دون اللجوء إلى الطلاق لحماية أمواله وسمعته.
وأوضح المدعي العام للولاية أن الطبيب جيمس كريج، المتهم بالجريمة، لم يكن راغباً في الطلاق لتجنّب الخسائر المالية وتشويه صورته، فاختار طريقاً مروّعاً للتخلّص من زوجته.
وبعد فشل محاولات سابقة لتسميم زوجته أنجيلا، ذكر الادعاء أن جيمس كريغ أعطاها جرعة قاتلة من «السيانيد» وهي ترقد على سريرها في المستشفى في 15 مارس 2023، بينما كان الأطباء يحاولون معرفة سبب مرضها.
أنجيلا كريج، وهي أم لستّة أطفال، كانت قد نُقلت إلى المستشفى 3 مرات خلال أسبوع واحد، قبل أن تُعلَن وفاتها دماغياً بعد ذلك بوقت قصير، وسط دهشة الطاقم الطبي.
ولم تتوقف القصة عند هذا الحد، إذ تتهم السلطات كريج أيضاً بمحاولة تزوير الأدلة لتبدو الحادثة وكأنها انتحار، كما يُزعم أنه طلب من أحد زملائه في السجن التخلص من المحقق المسؤول عن القضية.
ووقعت الجريمة المروّعة في ضاحية من ضواحي دنفر، ولا تزال تفاصيلها تكشف يوماً بعد آخر عن قسوة يصعب تصديقها، خصوصاً عندما تأتي من شريك حياة وأب لأسرة كبيرة.
ولا تزال القضية أمام القضاء في مرحلة المرافعات النهائية، وسط اهتمام إعلامي وشعبي واسع في كولورادو والولايات المتحدة، لما تحمله من تفاصيل مروّعة تجمع بين الخيانة الزوجية والقتل البطيء داخل مكان يُفترض أنه آمن وهو «المستشفى».
A shocking trial has shaken public opinion in the state of Colorado, USA, after a dentist was accused of killing his wife by gradually poisoning her, as he wanted to get rid of her due to his boredom with marriage, without resorting to divorce to protect his money and reputation.
The state attorney explained that Dr. James Craig, the accused in the crime, was not willing to divorce to avoid financial losses and damage to his image, so he chose a horrific way to eliminate his wife.
After previous attempts to poison his wife Angela had failed, the prosecution stated that James Craig gave her a lethal dose of cyanide while she was lying in her hospital bed on March 15, 2023, as doctors were trying to determine the cause of her illness.
Angela Craig, a mother of six children, had been hospitalized three times within one week before being declared brain dead shortly thereafter, much to the astonishment of the medical staff.
The story did not end there, as authorities also accuse Craig of attempting to fabricate evidence to make the incident appear as a suicide, and it is alleged that he asked a fellow inmate to eliminate the investigator responsible for the case.
The horrific crime took place in a suburb of Denver, and the details continue to reveal an unbelievable cruelty, especially when it comes from a life partner and a father of a large family.
The case is still before the courts in the final arguments phase, amid widespread media and public interest in Colorado and the United States, due to its horrifying details that combine marital infidelity and slow murder within a place that is supposed to be safe, namely the "hospital".
