قضت محكمة بريطانية بسجن عائلة إجرامية -ترأسها امرأة تبلغ من العمر 65 عاماً- لأكثر من 100 عام، بتهمة الاتجار في مخدرات بقيمة 80 مليون جنيه إسترليني.
حُكم على ديبورا ماسون، الملقبة بـ«ملكة النحل»، وسبعة أعضاء آخرين من أعضاء العصابة -منهم ستّ نساء- بالسجن لمدة تصل إلى 106.5 سنة، في محكمة وولويتش كراون؛ لتورطهم في تهريب نحو طن من الكوكايين على مدى سبعة أشهر، بحسب صحيفة «ذا تليغراف» البريطانية.
ونقلت المجموعة طروداً من الكوكايين المستورد ووزعتها في جميع أنحاء لندن، إضافة إلى برادفورد وليستر وبرمنغهام وبريستول وكارديف، بين أبريل ونوفمبر 2023.
وقُدِّرت قيمة المخدرات بما يراوح بين 23 و35 مليون جنيه إسترليني، وقيمتها السوقية 80 مليون جنيه إسترليني، وأنفقت زعيمة العصابة أرباحها على سلع فاخرة، وكانت تتطلع إلى السفر إلى بلد أخرى لإجراء عمليات تجميل.
وأُدينت ماسون، التي وصفتها شرطة العاصمة بـ«جدة العصابات»، بالتآمر لتوريد مخدرات من الفئة الأولى، وحُكم عليها بالسجن 20 عاماً.
وقالت المدعية العامة شارلوت هول: «شارك جميع الجناة في مؤامرة شملت توريد نحو طن من الكوكايين على مستوى البلاد، جُمعت عادة من مناطق قريبة من موانئ مثل هارويتش، وسُلّمت عبر البلاد».
وأضافت: «كان جميع المتورطين يتوقعون مكاسب مالية كبيرة، لا تقل عن 1000 جنيه إسترليني لكل رحلة.. وكانوا جميعاً على دراية بحجم العملية».
لعبت ماسون دوراً قيادياً، وشاركت في 20 رحلة، وسلّمت 356 كيلوغراماً من الكوكايين، ونفذت أيضاً رحلات لتوصيل وجمع الأموال.
وقالت هول: «لقد جنّدت ماسون أفراد عائلتها -أختها وأطفالها- إضافة إلى شركاء وأصدقاء أطفالها، لشبكة تضم ما لا يقل عن 10 أفراد».
كما نظمت من يقودون سياراتها، وظلت على اتصال هاتفي معهم منذ الصباح الباكر للتأكد من استيقاظهم، والاطمئنان عليهم طوال اليوم.
واستمعت المحكمة إلى أنها كانت تتلقى أكثر من 50 ألف جنيه إسترليني سنوياً كدخل إعانات خلال فترة المؤامرة، بينما كانت تتولى قيادة العصابة وتنفق ببذخ على الكماليات.
عندما كانت ماسون تقضي عطلتها، تولّت ابنتها روزان ماسون -التي نفذت 7 رحلات لتهريب نحو 166 كيلوغراما من الكوكايين- دورَ الإدارة، وفقاً لما استمعت إليه المحكمة.
بعد النطق بالحكم، قال المدعي العام المتخصص في دائرة الادعاء الملكية روبرت هاتشينسون: «لم تكن هذه عائلة عادية.. فبدلاً من رعاية أقاربها ورعايتهم، جنّدتهم ديبورا ماسون لإنشاء مشروع إجرامي مربح للغاية، سيُودي بهم جميعاً في النهاية إلى السجن».
وقال المحقق الذي قاد التحقيق جاك كراوشار: «انجرفت المجموعة إلى عالم الجريمة، منجذبة بأنانية إلى المنافع المالية لتجارة المخدرات لتمويل أنماط حياة مترفة.. لم يكونوا على دراية بأننا نلاحقهم، ويجب أن يكون هذا الحكم رادعاً لمن يفكر في ارتكاب هذا النوع من الجرائم».
A British court has sentenced a criminal family - led by a 65-year-old woman - to over 100 years in prison for drug trafficking worth £80 million.
Deborah Mason, nicknamed the "Queen Bee," and seven other gang members - including six women - were sentenced to a total of 106.5 years in prison at Woolwich Crown Court for their involvement in smuggling around a ton of cocaine over a seven-month period, according to the British newspaper "The Telegraph."
The group imported and distributed parcels of cocaine throughout London, as well as in Bradford, Leicester, Birmingham, Bristol, and Cardiff, between April and November 2023.
The estimated value of the drugs ranged between £23 million and £35 million, with a market value of £80 million. The gang leader spent her profits on luxury goods and was looking to travel to another country for cosmetic procedures.
Mason, described by the Metropolitan Police as the "Grandmother of Gangs," was convicted of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Chief Prosecutor Charlotte Hall said: "All the offenders participated in a conspiracy involving the supply of around a ton of cocaine nationwide, typically sourced from areas near ports like Harwich and delivered across the country."
She added: "All those involved were expecting significant financial gains, no less than £1,000 per trip... and they were all aware of the scale of the operation."
Mason played a leading role, participating in 20 trips and delivering 356 kilograms of cocaine, and also executed trips to collect and deliver money.
Hall stated: "Mason recruited her family members - her sister and children - as well as her children's partners and friends, into a network of at least 10 individuals."
She also organized drivers for her vehicles and maintained phone contact with them from early morning to ensure they were awake and checked on them throughout the day.
The court heard that she was receiving over £50,000 a year in benefits during the conspiracy while leading the gang and spending lavishly on luxuries.
When Mason was on holiday, her daughter Roseanne Mason - who carried out 7 trips smuggling around 166 kilograms of cocaine - took on a managerial role, according to what the court heard.
After the sentencing, specialist prosecutor Robert Hutchinson from the Crown Prosecution Service said: "This was not an ordinary family... Instead of caring for their relatives, Deborah Mason recruited them to create a highly profitable criminal enterprise that would ultimately lead them all to prison."
Investigator Jack Crawshaw, who led the investigation, said: "The group had drifted into the world of crime, selfishly drawn to the financial benefits of drug trafficking to fund lavish lifestyles... They were unaware that we were pursuing them, and this sentence should serve as a deterrent to anyone thinking of committing this type of crime."
