تعرض رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر لـ«موقف محرج»، حيث صافح عن طريق الخطأ مترجماً كورياً بدلاً من رئيس كوريا الجنوبية لي جيه ميونغ.
وأظهر مقطع فيديو مصور، ستارمر وهو يتحدث ويصافح مترجماً كورياً، الذي نبهه إلى أن الرئيس يقف خلفه ليسمع صوت ستارمر وهو يضحك بصوت عال. بعدها تقدم الرئيس الكوري أمام عدسات المصورين ثم تبعه ستارمر للسلام عليه أمام الصحافة، وذلك على هامش قمة مجموعة السبع في كاناناسكيس بكندا، أمس الأربعاء.
ووفقاً لما ذكرت صحيفة دايلى ميل، فإن ستارمر الذي تعرض فياليوم الأول لقمة السبع فى كندا لموقف محرج أيضاً عندما اضطر لجمع أوراق اتفاق التجارة بين أمريكا وبريطانيا بعد أن سقطت من الرئيس دونالد ترمب على الأرض، قدم نفسه على ما يبدو للمترجم قبل أن يتحول لتحية رئيس كوريا الجنوبية لى جاى ميونج مع عقدهما محادثات رسمية.
إلا أن داوننج ستريت أصر على أن مزاعم هذا الخلط ليست حقيقية.
وقالت «دايلى ميل» إن ستارمر وفي مستهل اللقاء مع رئيس كوريا الجنوبية، بدا متردداً فى مكان وقوفه لالتقاط الصور وسط ارتباك استمر ثوان خلال الاجتماع السنوي لقادة مجموعة السبع في كندا.
وبعد هذا الارتباك، قال ستارمر إن بلاده تتمتع بعلاقات قوية مع كوريا الجنوبية، وترغب فى تعزيزها أكثر في مجالات تشمل تعزيز اتفاقية التجارة الحرة والدفاع.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer found himself in an "embarrassing situation" when he accidentally shook hands with a Korean translator instead of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol.
A video showed Starmer speaking and shaking hands with the Korean translator, who alerted him that the president was standing behind him, prompting Starmer to laugh out loud. The South Korean president then stepped forward in front of the cameras, followed by Starmer to greet him in front of the press, during the G7 summit in Kananaskis, Canada, on Wednesday.
According to the Daily Mail, Starmer also faced an embarrassing moment on the first day of the G7 summit in Canada when he had to pick up trade agreement papers between the U.S. and the U.K. after they fell to the ground from President Donald Trump. He apparently introduced himself to the translator before turning to greet South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol as they held official talks.
However, Downing Street insisted that claims of this mix-up are not true.
The Daily Mail reported that at the start of the meeting with the South Korean president, Starmer appeared hesitant about where to stand for photos amid confusion that lasted several seconds during the annual G7 leaders' meeting in Canada.
After this confusion, Starmer stated that his country enjoys strong relations with South Korea and wishes to further strengthen them in areas including enhancing the free trade agreement and defense.
