أعلن مصدر طلب عدم الكشف عن هويته لأنه غير مخول بالتعليق علناً على قرارات الإدارة المتعلقة بالموظفين (السبت)، أن الرئيس دونالد ترمب سحب ترشيح الملياردير جاريد إسحاقمان، لقيادة وكالة «ناسا». ولم يستجب «البيت الأبيض» و«ناسا» فوراً لطلبات التعليق المُرسلة عبر البريد الإلكتروني.
وأعلن ترمب في ديسمبر الماضي، خلال الفترة الانتقالية الرئاسية، اختياره إسحاقمان لمنصب المدير القادم لوكالة الفضاء. وكان إسحاقمان متعاوناً وثيقاً مع الملياردير إيلون ماسك منذ أن اشترى أول رحلة طيران مستأجرة له على متن شركة «سبيس إكس» التابعة لماسك عام 2021.
وإسحاقمان هو الرئيس التنفيذي ومؤسس شركة «شيفت4»، وهي شركة معالجة بطاقات الائتمان. كما اشترى سلسلة من الرحلات الفضائية من «سبيس إكس» وأجرى أول رحلة فضائية خاصة. ولدى «سبيس إكس» عقود واسعة النطاق مع «ناسا».
ووافقت لجنة التجارة والعلوم والنقل في مجلس الشيوخ على ترشيح إسحاقمان في أواخر أبريل، وكان من المتوقع أن يجري تصويت في مجلس الشيوخ الأمريكي بكامل هيئته قريباً.
وبدا ماسك حزيناً لقرار ترمب في منشور على منصة التواصل الاجتماعي «إكس» (السبت) قال فيه: «من النادر أن تجد شخصاً بهذه الكفاءة والطيبة».
يُشار إلى أن «سبيس إكس» مملوكة لماسك، أحد مؤيدي ترمب ومستشاريه، الذي أعلن هذا الأسبوع أنه سيترك الحكومة بعد عدة أشهر من توليه رئاسة إدارة الكفاءة الحكومية. وأنشأ ترمب هذه الوكالة لتقليص حجم الحكومة ووضع ماسك على رأسها.
وكان موقع «سيمافور» الإخباري أول من كشف عن قرار «البيت الأبيض» سحب ترشيح إسحاقمان.
A source, who requested anonymity because they are not authorized to comment publicly on the administration's decisions regarding employees, announced on Saturday that President Donald Trump has withdrawn the nomination of billionaire Jared Isaacman to lead NASA. The White House and NASA did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment.
Trump announced last December, during the presidential transition period, his choice of Isaacman for the upcoming director position at the space agency. Isaacman has been a close collaborator with billionaire Elon Musk since he purchased his first charter flight aboard Musk's SpaceX in 2021.
Isaacman is the CEO and founder of Shift4, a credit card processing company. He also purchased a series of space flights from SpaceX and conducted the first private spaceflight. SpaceX has extensive contracts with NASA.
The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee approved Isaacman's nomination in late April, and a vote in the full U.S. Senate was expected soon.
Musk appeared saddened by Trump's decision in a post on the social media platform X on Saturday, stating, "It's rare to find someone with such competence and kindness."
It is noted that SpaceX is owned by Musk, a supporter and advisor to Trump, who announced this week that he would leave the government after several months of leading the Office of Management and Budget. Trump created this agency to reduce the size of government and placed Musk at its helm.
Semafor was the first news outlet to reveal the White House's decision to withdraw Isaacman's nomination.
