أعلن البيت الأبيض، توصل الولايات المتحدة والصين إلى اتفاق بشأن مستقبل تطبيق «تيك توك» لمقاطع الفيديو القصيرة.
وأكدت المتحدثة باسم البيت الأبيض كارولين ليفيت أن الولايات المتحدة ستتحكم بخوارزمية تيك توك في عملية الاستحواذ على عمليات منصة التواصل الاجتماعي في الولايات المتحدة.
وقالت ليفيت لقناة فوكس نيوز: «نحن واثقون تمامًا من إتمام الصفقة. الآن، كل ما تبقى هو توقيعها، وفريق الرئيس يعمل مع نظرائهم الصينيين لتحقيق ذلك».
وأضافت أنه من المرجح توقيع الصفقة «خلال الأيام القادمة»، مضيفةً أن شركة أوراكل العملاقة للتكنولوجيا ستتولى مسؤولية البيانات والخصوصية للتطبيق في الولايات المتحدة.
وأوضحت ليفيت أن الأمريكيين سيشغلون ستة من أصل سبعة مقاعد في مجلس إدارة تيك توك.
وتأتي تصريحات ليفيت بعد أن صرّح الرئيس دونالد ترمب الجمعة بأنه والرئيس الصيني شي جين بينغ أجريا «مكالمة مثمرة للغاية» وأحرزا تقدمًا في إتمام صفقة ستبيع معظم أصول تيك توك في الولايات المتحدة لمستثمرين أمريكيين.
في أبريل 2024، أقرّ الكونغرس مشروع قانون يحظر تطبيق التواصل الاجتماعي الشهير، مع تحذير من إمكانية استمرار تيك توك في العمل في الولايات المتحدة إذا باع نحو 80% من أصوله لمستثمرين أمريكيين.
اختفى تيك توك لفترة وجيزة في الولايات المتحدة في 18 يناير، أي قبل يوم من دخول قانون في هذا الشأن حيز التنفيذ وقبل يومين من تولي ترمب منصبه.
لكن تيك توك استمر في العمل مع منح ترمب 4 تمديدات لتأجيل الإغلاق ومنح إدارته مزيدًا من الوقت للتوصل إلى اتفاق.
يضم التطبيق نحو 170 مليون مستخدم أمريكي، كثير منهم من الشباب - وهي فئة قدمت دعمًا أكبر للمرشح الجمهوري للرئاسة في انتخابات 2024 مقارنةً بتلك الشريحة من السكان في الانتخابات السابقة، وفقًا لمركز بيو للأبحاث.

The White House announced that the United States and China have reached an agreement regarding the future of the short video app "TikTok."
White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt confirmed that the United States will control TikTok's algorithm during the acquisition process of the social media platform's operations in the United States.
Levitt told Fox News: "We are completely confident in finalizing the deal. Now, all that remains is to sign it, and the president's team is working with their Chinese counterparts to achieve that."
She added that the deal is likely to be signed "in the coming days," noting that tech giant Oracle will take responsibility for the data and privacy of the app in the United States.
Levitt clarified that Americans will hold six out of seven seats on TikTok's board of directors.
Her statements come after President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping had a "very fruitful call" and made progress in finalizing a deal that would sell most of TikTok's assets in the United States to American investors.
In April 2024, Congress passed a bill banning the popular social media app, warning that TikTok could continue to operate in the United States if it sold about 80% of its assets to American investors.
TikTok briefly disappeared in the United States on January 18, just a day before a law regarding this matter came into effect and two days before Trump took office.
However, TikTok continued to operate as Trump granted four extensions to delay the shutdown and give his administration more time to reach an agreement.
The app has about 170 million American users, many of whom are young— a demographic that has shown greater support for the Republican presidential candidate in the 2024 elections compared to that segment of the population in previous elections, according to the Pew Research Center.
Levitt confirmed that the deal will be led by a coalition of investors, including Oracle, Andreessen Horowitz, and Silver Lake. This may leave the remaining 20% for Chinese investors.
The algorithm, which determines what users see in their "For You" feeds or what is known as the "personalized mix" that has made the app extremely popular, is difficult for competitors to replicate. ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, has stated that it is not considering selling the app with or without the algorithm.
Negotiations between the United States and China reached a deadlock over a potential deal with TikTok after Trump imposed hefty tariffs on Chinese goods in April.
After the tariffs were reduced and talks between the United States and China resumed, Treasury Secretary Scott Pruitt stated that both Trump and Xi expressed interest in reopening discussions about TikTok, although key details need to be settled, including addressing U.S. national security concerns.
The anticipated agreement paves the way for the first in-person meeting between Trump and Xi since he returned to power. The two leaders are expected to meet next month at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea.
