أكد مهاجم المنتخب السعودي صالح الشهري أن «مواجهة العراق المرتقبة تمثل أهمية كبيرة في مشوار الأخضر في الملحق الآسيوي المؤهل لكأس العالم 2026، وهدفنا تحقيق الفوز وحصد النقاط الثلاث والوصول للمونديال القادم».
وقال الشهري في المؤتمر الصحفي الذي يسبق المباراة الحاسمة: «سنلعب أهم مواجهة لنا، وعلينا أن نكون في قمة التركيز حتى نكون سعداء بعد اللقاء بالتأهل لكأس العالم القادمة». وشكر الشهري الجماهير السعودية على دعمهم في مواجهة إندونيسيا الماضية، «ونتمنى استمرار هذا الدعم في لقاء العراق؛ لأننا نشعر بأهمية المباراة، ونريد الفوز لنحتفل سوياً بعد نهاية اللقاء بالوصول للمونديال القادم».
وتحدث الشهري عن غيابات الأخضر قائلا: «العبود وكنو لاعبان مهمان، وأتمنى السلامة للعبود، ولدينا قائمة كاملة، وكل من سيتواجد في المستطيل الأخضر سيبذل أقصى ما لديه لخدمة المنتخب الوطني». وشدد الشهري على أهمية الانتصار وحصد النقاط الثلاث، مبيناً أن «التعادل سيكون منطقياً إذا ضمنا التأهل للمونديال القادم، وسندخل المواجهة من أجل الفوز ولا غيره، لكن لو أجبرتنا ظروف المباراة على التعادل، فالأهم هو التأهل إلى كأس العالم القادمة». واختتم المهاجم السعودي حديثه بقوله: «بالتأكيد العلاقة قوية بين اللاعبين والمدرب رينارد، وبالنسبة لنا هي مباراة اللاعبين، وكذلك مباراة المدرب، ونحن نثق به كثيراً، فقد عشنا معه العديد من اللحظات الجميلة التي منحتنا الثقة، وبمشيئة الله نتأهل لكأس العالم القادمة».

Al-Shehri spoke about the absences in the Green team, saying: "Al-Aboud and Kanu are important players, and I wish Al-Aboud a speedy recovery. We have a full squad, and everyone who will be on the pitch will give their utmost to serve the national team." Al-Shehri emphasized the importance of victory and collecting the three points, indicating that "a draw would be reasonable if we secured qualification for the next World Cup, and we will enter the match aiming for victory and nothing else. However, if the circumstances of the match force us to draw, the most important thing is to qualify for the upcoming World Cup." The Saudi striker concluded his remarks by saying: "Certainly, the relationship between the players and coach Renard is strong, and for us, it is the players' match as well as the coach's match.
