كشفت صحيفة «تايمز البريطانية» أن الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا» يخطط للسماح بمشاركة ثلاثة أندية من الدولة نفسها في بطولة كأس العالم للأندية 2029، بدلا من القيد السابق الذي كان يقتصر على ناديين فقط، بعد حرمان أندية ليفربول وبرشلونة ونابولي من المشاركة في النسخة الأولى من البطولة، إذ ستسمح هذه الخطوة بمشاركة أوسع للفرق الإنجليزية والإسبانية والإيطالية، وتزيد من مصداقية البطولة.
وكانت النسخة الأولى التي أقيمت في الولايات المتحدة قد شهدت فوز تشيلسي باللقب بعد التفوق على باريس سان جيرمان 3-0 في النهائي، بينما مثل إنجلترا كل من تشيلسي ومانشستر سيتي فقط.
ورغم ذلك، من المتوقع أن يواجه الفيفا معارضة من الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم «يويفا»، خصوصا مع خطط توسيع البطولة إلى 48 فريقا وإمكانية تنظيمها كل عامين.

This comes after Liverpool, Barcelona, and Napoli were denied participation in the first edition of the tournament. This step will allow for broader participation from English, Spanish, and Italian teams, increasing the tournament's credibility.
