أنقذ نغولو كانتي فريقه الاتحاد من التعثر الأول في دوري المحترفين في نسخته الحالية، بعد إحرازه هدفاً قاتلاً في اللقاء الذي جمع الاتحاد بمضيفه النجمة، وانتهى لمصلحة الاتحاد بهدف دون مقابل ضمن لقاءات الجولة الثالثة «جولة عزنا بطبعنا» من دوري روشن السعودي للمحترفين.
شهد اللقاء سيطرة سلبية لفريق الاتحاد وسط تكتل دفاعي من أصحاب الأرض والاعتماد على الهجمات المرتدة، ومن مجهود فردي من موسى ديابي لعب كرة عرضية لصالح الشهري ليسددها، وتصل لحسام عوار الذي أودعها الشباك، ولكن بعد العودة لتقنية الفيديو تم إلغاء الهدف بداعي وجود خطأ على الشهري قبل أن يسدد الكرة، ومن كرة عالية لعب حسام عوار الكرة برأسه ولكنها ارتطمت في القائم، لينتهي الشوط الأول دون أهداف.
وفي الشوط الثاني نشط أداء النجمة وسط تراجع في أداء الفريق الاتحادي، وكاد النجمة يهز شباك الاتحاد بتسديدة قوية من خارج منطقة الجزاء من الهندوراسي ديبي فلوريس ولكن تصدى لها الحارس محمد العبسي، ومن هجمة مرتدة انفرد عبدالرحمن العبود بمرمى النجمة ولكن تسديدته ذهبت فوق العارضة، ليعود العبود مجدداً في الوقت بدل الضائع ويمرر كرة قصيرة لنغولو كانتي الذي سددها قوية في المرمى هدفاً قاتلاً للاتحاد (د:90+6)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز الاتحاد بهدف دون مقابل.
وبهذه النتيجة يحقق الاتحاد فوزه الثالث على التوالي ويحصل على النقطة التاسعة، وسيلاقي في الجولة القادمة ضيفه النصر في قمة كروية منتظرة، فيما تلقى النجمة الخسارة الثالثة على التوالي وتجمد رصيده دون نقاط وسيواجه في الجولة القادمة ضيفه الفيحاء.
