The Oman Football Association issued several decisive decisions following the events of its national team's match against Yemen in the semifinals of the Gulf Cup for Youth in its first edition currently taking place in Abha, Saudi Arabia.
The match, which ended in favor of Yemen with a score of two goals to none, witnessed exciting events, as Omani player Mohammed Yaqoub received a red card just 19 minutes into the match, which was officiated by Qatari referee Mohammed Al-Sharif, who was assaulted by some members of the Omani team immediately after the match ended.
The Oman Football Association stated in its announcement: "In light of its national responsibility to maintain the status of Omani football, the Oman Football Association announces a number of decisions and measures in this regard."
The first and most prominent decision was to temporarily suspend the assistant coach of the youth team, as well as the media coordinator for the team, from engaging in any activities with the national teams until all reports are completed and an independent investigation committee is formed to look into the events.
The second decision was: "The association submitted an official letter to the Gulf Football Association regarding the reasons that led to the situation getting out of control in the match between Oman and Yemen and the resulting consequences."
The statement also included a third decision concerning the Omani Olympic team: "In the same context, the association sent an official letter to the Asian Football Confederation regarding the holding of the Olympic team’s match under unsuitable conditions that could affect the players' safety, demanding the preservation of the rights of all teams, especially with the upcoming participation of the Omani national team in the next stage of the Asian qualifiers scheduled to be held in Doha, which qualify for the 2026 World Cup."
The statement concluded: "The Oman Football Association reaffirms at the end of its statement its constant commitment to protecting the rights of our national teams and its dedication to taking the necessary measures through official channels, reflecting the status of Omani sports in continental and international forums."
