أكد رئيس نادي فنربخشة التركي علي كوتش أنه تناقش مع البرتغالي جوزيه مورينيو مدرب الفريق السابق بسبب طريقة لعبه الدفاعية قبل قرار إقالته.
وقال كوتش: «كان قرارنا تعيين لوتشيانو سباليتي خلفاً لمورينيو لكنه قرر عدم العمل هذا الموسم»، وأضاف: «الانفصال عن مورينيو كان مُراً فقد كانت هناك كيمياء رائعة بيننا وإنجازاته واضحة وحتى مجرد التمكن من إحضاره إلى هنا كان إنجازاً كبيراً»، وتابع: «كنا نعلم أن المدرب سيلعب بطريقة دفاعية لكن في نهاية الموسم ناقشنا الحاجة إلى أخذ زمام المبادرة بشكل أكبر»، وأكمل: «الإقصاء أمام بنفيكا لم يكن المشكلة بحد ذاته بل الطريقة التي تم إقصاؤنا بها جعلتني أشعر أن نهج الموسم الماضي سيستمر».
يُذكر أن مورينيو تواجد على رأس الجهاز الفني لفريق فنربخشه التركي لمدة 14 شهراً اكتفى خلالها في الموسم الأول بوصافة الدوري التركي خلف البطل غلطة سراي بفارق 11 نقطة والخروج من نهائي كأس تركيا والخروج المبكر من دوري أبطال أوروبا، ومع بداية الموسم الحالي خسر فرصة التواجد في دوري أبطال أوروبا بعد السقوط أمام بنفيكا البرتغالي في التصفيات بنتيجة (1-0) ليتعرض بعدها للإقالة من منصبه في 29 أغسطس الماضي.

The president of the Turkish club Fenerbahçe, Ali Koç, confirmed that he discussed with Portuguese coach José Mourinho, the team's former coach, about his defensive playing style before the decision to dismiss him.
Koç said: "Our decision was to appoint Luciano Spalletti as Mourinho's successor, but he decided not to work this season." He added: "The separation from Mourinho was bitter; there was great chemistry between us, and his achievements are clear. Even just being able to bring him here was a significant accomplishment." He continued: "We knew that the coach would play defensively, but by the end of the season, we discussed the need to take more initiative." He added: "The elimination against Benfica was not the problem in itself, but the way we were eliminated made me feel that last season's approach would continue."
It is noteworthy that Mourinho was at the helm of the coaching staff for Fenerbahçe for 14 months, during which he only managed to secure second place in the Turkish league behind champions Galatasaray by 11 points, exited from the Turkish Cup final, and faced an early exit from the UEFA Champions League. At the start of the current season, he lost the chance to participate in the Champions League after falling to Portuguese Benfica in the qualifiers with a score of (1-0), leading to his dismissal from his position on August 29.
