بعد 49 عاماً من آخر نهائي جمع الأهلي والنصر في كأس الاتحاد السعودي، يلتقي الفريقان مرة أخرى في مواجهة كبرى تحدد بطل كأس السوبر السعودي السبت القادم على استاد هونغ كونغ الدولي، بعد تأهلهما على حساب القادسية والاتحاد، إذ يسعى النصر بقيادة «جيسوس» إلى تكرار انتصاره أمام الأهلي في نهائي السوبر، حيث التقى الفريقان في 11 نهائياً بجميع المسابقات، فاز الأهلي في 7 مقابل 4 للنصر، آخرها قبل 49 عاماً عندما تُوج بكأس الاتحاد السعودي على حساب الأهلي عام 1976، ويعتبر نهائي كأس السوبر أول مواجهة للفريقين في المسابقة التي انطلقت عام 2013.
يذكر أن الأهلي تأهل إلى النهائي بعد فوزه الكبير على القادسية بخمسة أهداف مقابل هدف، فيما انتصر النصر على نظيره الاتحاد بهدفين مقابل هدف في نصف نهائي المسابقة.
