حقق كريستال بالاس بطولة الدرع الخيرية الإنجليزية بفوزه بركلات الترجيح على ليفربول (3-2)، بعد انتهاء الوقت الأصلي بالتعادل بهدفين لكل منهما في اللقاء الذي جمع بينهما على ملعب ويمبلي في العاصمة البريطانية لندن.
وشهد اللقاء بداية قوية لليفربول الذي تمكن من إحراز الهدف الأول بعد مرور 4 دقائق فقط عن طريق مهاجمه الجديد أوغو إيكيتيكي، الذي تسلم الكرة من زميله فلوريان فيرتز ليسددها إيكيتيكي أرضية لتسكن الشباك (د:4)، وعاد كريستال بالاس لأجواء المباراة وتمكن من إدراك التعادل بعد أن ارتكب مدافع ليفربول فان دايك خطأ داخل منطقة الجزاء بعد عرقلته المهاجم إسماعيلا سار، ليحتسب الحكم ركلة جزاء لصالح بالاس سددها بنجاح جون فيليب ماتيتا ليسجل هدف التعادل (د:17)، وسرعان ما تقدم ليفربول مجدداً عن طريق جيريمي فريمبونغ الذي لعب الكرة من فوق الحارس هندرسون لتسكن الشباك هدفاً ثانياً لليفربول (د:21).
وفي الشوط الثاني نشط أداء كريستال بالاس الذي سيطر على مجريات اللقاء وتمكن حارس ليفربول أليسون من التصدي للعديد من الفرص الخطرة، ولكن بالاس تمكن من إدراك التعادل بعد خطأ من لاعب ليفربول جاكبو ليفقد الكرة وتصل لمهاجم بالاس اسماعيلا سار الذي واجه الحارس ووضع الكرة في الشباك بعد أن ارتطمت بالقائم ليعلن الهدف الثاني لكريستال بالاس (د:77)، واستمر اللقاء بالتعادل بهدفين لكل منهما إلى أن أطلق الحكم صافرته بنهاية الوقت الأصلي واتجاه الفريقين لركلات الترجيح، وتفوق كريستال بالاس بتسجيل 3 ركلات ترجيح فيما نجح ليفربول في تسجيل ركلتين ترجيحيتين فقط.
وبذلك يحقق كريستال بالاس لقب الدرع الخيرية ويضمها للقب كأس الاتحاد الإنجليزي الذي حققه الموسم الماضي ولأول مرة في تاريخه، عقب الفوز على مانشستر سيتي بنتيجة 1-0، في المباراة التي جمعت الفريقين على ملعب ويمبلي.

Crystal Palace won the English Charity Shield by defeating Liverpool in a penalty shootout (3-2) after the regular time ended in a 2-2 draw in the match held at Wembley Stadium in the British capital, London.
