لا يزال الاتحاد الدولي لتاريخ وإحصاءات كرة القدم (IFFHS) يعاني من فجوة ثقة كبيرة مع الكثير من المنظمات والاتحادات الرياضية والقارية التي تقف أمام استراتيجيته وأهدافه التي يسعى لتحقيقها بأن يكون المرجع الأول للبطولات، إذ منعت وكالة الأنباء الألمانية إذاعة أي خبر متعلق بـ(IFFHS)، كنتيجة أو إحصائية أو غيرهما، وذلك في إشارة منها لعدم الاعتراف بالاتحاد الذي تناله الكثير من الانتقادات والتشكيك بسبب عدم اتصاله بالاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا».
من جانبه، وصف المؤرخ الرياضي الألماني كارل ليننارتز الاتحاد بالغموض وعدم وجود شفافية كاملة لرصد وإحصاء البطولات، وأنه غير معترف به من مؤرخي رياضة كرة القدم في معظم دول العالم.
يذكر أن الاتحاد الدولي لتاريخ وإحصاءات كرة القدم (IFFHS) تأسس في 27 مارس 1984 في مدينة «لايبزغ» الألمانية، على يد الدكتور ألفريدو بوجي، وتأييد السكرتير العام للفيفا في ذلك الوقت هيلموت كيسر، وكثيراً ما يستشهد الاتحاد الدولي للفيفا بإحصاءات من هذا الاتحاد.
