«المسحل» معتذراً: تركيزنا على الكأس الذهبية
The President of the Saudi Football Federation, Yasser Al-Mashal, apologized to the fans of the Saudi national team for not qualifying the "Green" directly for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held next year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and for entering the Asian playoff alongside Indonesia, the UAE, Qatar, Iraq, and Oman. He said: "The level of the Green has been rising this year, and hope still exists in the next round of the qualifiers. Now we will focus on the Gold Cup, which will help us prepare the players to enter the playoff with high morale and technical experience." He continued: "The number of minutes played by the Saudi national team players in the league and with their clubs is noticeably increasing... and the reduction of the list for the clubs has contributed to that." This came after the Saudi national team lost to their Australian counterpart by two goals to one in the match that brought them together in the tenth and final round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which took place at the Al-Nimah Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. He revealed that they submitted an official request to the Asian Federation to host the playoff on Saudi soil, saying: "We submitted a complete file to host the Asian playoff, and we are ready for any location where it is held, God willing." He refused to evaluate the work of the committees of the Saudi Football Federation, saying: "We are making every effort, and as a result, our youth and junior teams qualified for the World Cup, and I leave the evaluation to the critics." Regarding the delay in the dismissal of the Italian coach "Mancini" and whether that was a reason for our direct qualification failure, Al-Mashal said: "I don't think so; we should have given Mancini the full opportunity, but I believe the change was positive, and God willing, we will celebrate qualifying for the 2026 World Cup."
