أكد لاعب الهلال واتكينز أن فريقه قدم أداءً قوياً أمام منافساً صعباً، بعد الفوز على ضيفه شباب الأهلي الإماراتي بهدفين دون مقابل، في المباراة التي جمعتهما على ملعب المملكة أرينا بالرياض، ضمن الجولة الرابعة من دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة.
وأوضح واتكينز أن الهلال نجح في استغلال أخطاء المنافس وحسم المواجهة لصالحه، مشيراً إلى أن اللقاء لم يكن سهلاً في ظل قدرة شباب الأهلي على الاستحواذ وتبادل التمريرات بصورة جيدةً، إلا أن ذلك لم يشكل تهديداً حقيقياً على مرمى الهلال.
وقال واتكينز في تصريحاً خاصاً لـ«عكاظ»:«واجهنا فريقاً من الصعب اللعب أمامه، لكننا نجحنا في معاقبته على بعض الأخطاء التي ارتكبها، وقدمنا أداءً قوياً».
وأضاف:«رغم أن المنافس كان جيداً في تناقل الكرة والاستحواذ عليها، فإنه لم يصنع فرصاً خطيرةً أو يشكل تهديداً حقيقياً على مرمانا».
وأعرب واتكينز عن رضاه بالمستوى الذي قدمه الهلال قبل فترة التوقف، مؤكداً أن التركيز سيتحول الآن إلى الاستعداد للمرحلة القادمة.
Al Hilal player Watkins confirmed that his team delivered a strong performance against a tough opponent, after winning against their guest, Al Ahli Youth from the UAE, with two goals to none, in the match held at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, as part of the fourth round of the AFC Champions League.
Watkins explained that Al Hilal succeeded in exploiting the opponent's mistakes and secured the victory in their favor, noting that the match was not easy given Al Ahli Youth's ability to control possession and exchange passes effectively, but this did not pose a real threat to Al Hilal's goal.
Watkins said in a special statement to “Okaz”: “We faced a team that is difficult to play against, but we managed to punish them for some mistakes they made, and we delivered a strong performance.”
He added: “Although the opponent was good at passing the ball and maintaining possession, they did not create any dangerous chances or pose a real threat to our goal.”
Watkins expressed his satisfaction with the level that Al Hilal showed before the break, confirming that the focus will now shift to preparing for the upcoming phase.
