Everton striker Thierno Barry broke his silence after his home was robbed while he was participating in his team's victory over Newcastle United, confirming that the incident will not hinder his season.
The 24-year-old forward scored his seventh goal of the season last Thursday at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, leading Everton to a 3-1 victory over Newcastle in the Carabao Cup and qualifying for the quarter-finals, while his family watched the match from the stands, at the same time that thieves were breaking into their home.
His wife, Charlene, the mother of their one-year-old daughter Alayna, revealed the incident via the stories feature on the social media platform "Instagram" and said: "Unfortunately, our home was robbed this evening while we were at the football match, and fortunately, no one was home at the time, but it is still a painful and very violating experience for us and our family."
She added that she is willing to offer a financial reward for anyone who provides information that helps identify the perpetrators, marking the latest incident in a series of burglaries targeting the homes of Premier League players, just days after the home of Morgan Gibbs-White, the Nottingham Forest star, and Bruno Fernandes was robbed.
On Friday evening, Barry posted a strong message on his account, stating: "I took some time to write this so I wouldn't speak in a moment of anger, which is something I learned from last season."
He added: "Honestly, regarding what happened during yesterday's match, all I think about is that my family wasn't home and could have been beside me in the stadium; things could have been much worse, and I truly believe that nothing happens by chance."
He continued: "Maybe I was too open about my family life and my life, which could put them at risk, just to show my lifestyle and inspire others through my journey and success."
He concluded with a clear challenge: "As I have been saying since the beginning of the season, nothing and no one will stop me from making this season my season."
