In one of the most complex and convoluted identity and lineage fraud cases in the region's history, Kuwaiti society was shaken by the downfall of a massive forgery network that had its roots extending for decades. Thorough security investigations revealed the revocation of citizenship by establishment for 544 individuals, all descending from a single family tree, in a practical application of the approach "dismantling the branches to reach the roots."
The threads of this sensational scandal began to unravel from the file of a Kuwaiti man born in the 1930s, who married six women and had 28 sons and daughters recorded in his file. The security authorities did not stop at uncovering individual cases of forgery; rather, the nationality investigations adopted a strategic engineering approach that relied on digging through historical documents, tracing hereditary lineage, and matching genetic fingerprints of the children, grandchildren, and uncles.
The investigations revealed shocking surprises, as it became clear that several of this man's children were merely individuals who had come from neighboring countries in the 1970s, using forged documents from former MPs and fake contracts to establish false lineages and infiltrate the Kuwaiti family file in exchange for dubious deals.
As the scope of the security sweep expanded, examining networks of lineage and marriage ties and sibling records, files began to fall one after another. Out of the 28 children, six primary sons were involved in building spiderweb networks of fake dependencies, which ultimately amounted to 544 dependents, including children and grandchildren, who were stripped of their citizenship as soon as their knowledge and involvement in the forgery of the family's historical origin were confirmed.
