Under pressure from the opposition, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pledged to disclose all his previous dealings with the owners of Manchester City. The pledge came after a wave of criticism sparked by Burnham's statement that he would be "very concerned" if the Emirati owners sold the club, prompting Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch to demand that he publish all records related to his dealings with the club and disclose any gifts or hospitality during his tenure as Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Photos of him with City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak during his time as Mayor have increased calls for clarification regarding the nature of his relationship with the club's officials, according to a report broadcast by "RT".
Burnham confirmed his readiness to publish the information, explaining that his important meetings with them were limited and not recent, with the most significant meeting occurring in 2021, emphasizing the need to separate football-related issues from investment discussions.
The developments come after an independent committee found Manchester City guilty of 114 financial violations from the 2009-2010 season to the 2017-2018 season, which included fictitious sponsorship contracts to conceal funding of over £830 million, providing inaccurate information, and failing to cooperate with the investigation.
The club has denied the allegations and filed an appeal in early October, awaiting a sanctions hearing that could include point deductions or fines.
