Oman's national team coach, Tarek Al-Sakhtawi, confirmed that his team did not deserve to lose against the UAE in the match held at Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Sports City in Jeddah, as part of the semi-final round, pointing out that bad luck and lack of focus prevented them from reaching the final.
Al-Sakhtawi said at the press conference: "It was an exciting match between two brotherly teams. We did not start well and conceded a goal from a free kick due to a lack of marking, even though we had chances that we did not capitalize on."
He added: "In the second half, we were better. We worked on the flanks and tried to pressure and create opportunities against a strong UAE team in possession and ball retention, but we were not successful."
He continued: "We feel a great bitterness; I repeat that we did not deserve to lose, but the circumstances and bad luck were not in our favor. Reaching the semi-finals and being among the best teams in the tournament is an achievement."
He explained that conceding goals from set pieces is due to a lack of focus, which is more of a mental issue than a technical or tactical one, emphasizing the need to work on developing the team in all aspects.
Al-Sakhtawi stressed that change in the Omani national team system is a necessity, not an option, saying: "It is difficult to work with players over the age of 33. The door to the national team is open to everyone, and we will consider all options in the upcoming phase."
He concluded: "The tournament was very successful for us, and we have bigger challenges ahead that we will build on. I ask everyone to trust our work, and the future will be brighter, God willing."
