أكد قائد أبها ومنتخب عسير سابقاً الدكتور عبداللطيف آل شعثان أن تأهل الأخضر إلى نهائي بطولة كأس الخليج العربي لكرة القدم «خليجي 27»، بعد فوزه على المنتخب القطري بركلات الترجيح (3-2)، في المباراة التي جمعتهما اليوم على ملعب مدينة الملك عبدالله الرياضية بجدة، ضمن منافسات الدور نصف النهائي، جاء عن جدارة واستحقاق.
وقال لـ«عكاظ»: «الأخضر كان الأفضل في أغلب فترات اللقاء، وتفوق بوضوح في الاستحواذ وعدد التسديدات والركنيات مقارنة بالعنابي».
وأضاف: «بدأ المنتخب المباراة بضغط عالٍ ورغبة في امتلاك الكرة، ووصل لمرمى قطر عدة مرات خاصة في الشوط الأول، ما يؤكد نجاح خطة دونيس في الضغط المبكر ونقل اللعب للأطراف ودفع قطر للتراجع».
وتابع: «لاعبو الأخضر نجحوا في تحجيم خطورة أكرم عفيف، أبرز أسلحة قطر الهجومية، فقل تأثيره كثيراً، وساهم التنظيم الدفاعي بين قلبي الدفاع والمحاور والتعامل المميز مع العرضيات في إبطال هجمات المنافس».
ولفت آل شعثان إلى أن المنتخب افتقد للحسم أمام المرمى رغم وصوله المتكرر لمناطق الخطورة، وكان يحتاج لتحركات أعمق خلف الدفاع القطري لحسم اللقاء في وقته الأصلي، مشدداً على أن مواجهة التكتلات لا تكون بالتمرير فقط، بل برفع الإيقاع والتحرك بدون كرة والاختراق بين المدافع والظهير.
Dr. Abdul Latif Al-Shathan, the former captain of Abha and the Asir national team, confirmed that the qualification of the Green Team to the final of the Arabian Gulf Cup "Gulf 27" after their victory over the Qatari national team in a penalty shootout (3-2) in the match held today at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, as part of the semi-final round, was well-deserved and earned.
He told "Okaz": "The Green Team was the better side for most of the match, clearly excelling in possession, number of shots, and corners compared to the Maroon team."
He added: "The national team started the match with high pressure and a desire to control the ball, reaching the Qatari goal several times, especially in the first half, which confirms the success of Donis's plan in early pressing, shifting play to the flanks, and forcing Qatar to retreat."
He continued: "The players of the Green Team succeeded in limiting the threat posed by Akram Afif, one of Qatar's main attacking weapons, as his impact was greatly reduced. The defensive organization between the center-backs and the midfielders, along with the excellent handling of crosses, played a significant role in nullifying the opponent's attacks."
Al-Shathan pointed out that the team lacked decisiveness in front of the goal despite their repeated incursions into dangerous areas, and they needed deeper movements behind the Qatari defense to secure the win in regular time, emphasizing that dealing with defensive blocks is not just about passing, but also about increasing the tempo, moving without the ball, and penetrating between the defender and the full-back.
