Former Saudi national team star Captain Mohammed Abduljawad praised the victory achieved by the Green team over their Kuwaiti counterpart, emphasizing the importance of securing the three points, despite describing the overall performance of the team as "average".
Abduljawad said in a statement after the match: "The first half was somewhat average, despite the Saudi team having one or two opportunities that they did not capitalize on as required, but in the second half, the level improved, especially with the presence of skillful players in the attack who can make a difference."
He added: "Such matches require opening up the play on the flanks or benefiting from the skillful players and their ability to use their skills to reach the goal and score, and this is what happened in the second half, and thank God for the result."
Abduljawad pointed out that the most important thing at this stage is to benefit from the victory and focus directly on the upcoming match, saying: "There are many things the team needs, but we have now secured three very important points against a tough opponent, which is the Kuwaiti team with a great history in the Gulf tournaments. We must forget the victory and concentrate on the next match, God willing."
Regarding his memories of the Gulf tournaments, Abduljawad confirmed that they hold a special place for him, adding: "My memories are very beautiful, especially meeting colleagues, friends, and brothers from the teams of Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Iraq, and Oman. The gatherings were wonderful, and we formed very deep friendships through them."
When asked about the team he sees as the most prominent contender for the championship title, Abduljawad answered briefly: "Iraq."
