Our Saudi national football team achieved victory over their Kuwaiti counterpart with a score of one goal to none in the match held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, during the opening of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup "Gulf 27," currently taking place in Jeddah.
The match witnessed Saudi dominance amidst a Kuwaiti retreat, starting with striker Abdullah Al-Hamdan threatening the Kuwaiti goal with a shot that went past the post, followed by a shot from Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat that went over the crossbar. The most dangerous shot came from Muteb Al-Harbi, which was saved by goalkeeper Saud Al-Hoshan for a corner kick. The Kuwaiti team began to threaten the Saudi goal with a cross, but Muteb Al-Harbi cleared it at the right moment. Due to a defensive error, Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat seized the ball from defender Abdulaziz Naji but hesitated to shoot and preferred to pass, allowing Kuwaiti defender Khalid Al-Murshid to clear it for a corner kick. After a high skill move from Mohammed Kanno, Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat shot powerfully into the net, but Portuguese referee João Pinheiro disallowed the goal for a foul on Kanno.
In the second half, the Saudi Green continued its dominance, and Hemam Al-Hemami nearly opened the scoring with a brilliant header, but it was saved by goalkeeper Al-Hoshan in two attempts. Al-Hemami then controlled a high ball and cleverly played it, which deflected off defender Youssef Al-Haqan into the net, marking the first goal for the Saudi team (73rd minute). The Saudi goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi suffered a serious injury after colliding with Kuwaiti defender Khalid Al-Murshid, leading to goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais replacing him. After 10 minutes of stoppage time, referee Pinheiro announced the end of the match with the Saudi team winning by one goal to none.
With this result, our national team collects three points, sitting atop Group A, followed by Iraq and Oman, each with one point, while Kuwait occupies the fourth position with no points.
