ذكرت وسائل إعلام بريطانية أن قيمة صفقة تعاقد تشيلسي مع الدولي الإنجليزي مورغان روجرز بلغت 117 مليون جنيه إسترليني، ما يعادل 157 مليون دولار، بعقد يمتد حتى عام 2033، وهو ما يجعل روجرز أغلى لاعب بريطاني في التاريخ. وانتقل روجرز عن أستون فيلا بعدما ساهم في تتويج فريقه بلقب الدوري الأوروبي في مايو الماضي.
من جانبه، قال روجرز في بيان نشره النادي: «أنا متحمس للغاية. بالنسبة لي، تشيلسي هو أكبر نادٍ في لندن، وهو النادي الذي طالما أعجبت به منذ طفولتي». وتابع قائلاً: «أنا متحمس جداً للمشروع مع المدرب الجديد، وبمجموعة اللاعبين الموجودة، وللاتجاه الذي يسير فيه النادي. لهذا السبب جئت إلى هنا، ولا أطيق الانتظار لبدء العمل».
ولم يكشف الناديان التفاصيل المالية للصفقة، لكن شبكة سكاي سبورتس أفادت بأن قيمتها تجاوزت المبلغ الذي دفعه مانشستر سيتي لنوتنغهام فورست مقابل لاعب الوسط إليوت أندرسون في وقت سابق من الشهر الجاري، والبالغ 116 مليون جنيه إسترليني.
وكانت الصفقة الأغلى في تاريخ تشيلسي سابقاً هي ضم لاعب الوسط الإكوادوري موزيس كايسيدو من برايتون آند هوف ألبيون مقابل 115 مليون جنيه إسترليني عام 2023.
British media reported that the value of Chelsea's contract with English international Morgan Rogers reached £117 million, equivalent to $157 million, with a contract extending until 2033, making Rogers the most expensive British player in history. Rogers moved from Aston Villa after contributing to his team's victory in the Europa League title last May.
For his part, Rogers said in a statement published by the club: "I am extremely excited. For me, Chelsea is the biggest club in London, and it is the club I have admired since my childhood." He continued: "I am very excited about the project with the new coach, with the group of players present, and for the direction the club is heading. That’s why I came here, and I can’t wait to get started."
Neither club disclosed the financial details of the deal, but Sky Sports reported that its value surpassed the amount Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for midfielder Elliot Anderson earlier this month, which was £116 million.
The previous most expensive deal in Chelsea's history was the signing of Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115 million in 2023.
