عقب تسعة مواسم من العمل داخل أروقة الاتحاد الكرواتي لكرة القدم، وتحديداً مع المنتخب، انتهت رحلة وحكاية المدير الفني «زلاتكو داليتش»، بعد الخروج من مونديال 2026، إذ أعلن اتحاد الكرة استقالته من منصبه مدرباً، بعد أقل من أسبوع على وداع كأس العالم بالخسارة 2-1 أمام البرتغال في دور الـ32.
وخلال فترة داليتش مع الفريق، احتلت كرواتيا المركز الثاني في كأس العالم 2018 والثالث في نسخة 2022 في قطر، لكن الفريق خرج هذه المرة من دور الـ32 بعد مباراة دراماتيكية أمام البرتغال.
من جانبه قال زلاتكو الذي سبق له العمل مع ناديي الفيصلي والهلال: عندما توليت تدريب المنتخب الأول، كنت أؤمن بقدرات اللاعبين وبنفسي، لكنني لم أتخيل بأننا سنحقق كل ما حققناه خلال هذه السنوات التسع تقريباً.
وأضاف: لا أستطيع وصف مدى شعوري بالفخر بكل انتصار حققناه، وبالتأهل إلى البطولات الكبرى، وحصد ثلاث ميداليات، وبتلك الليالي الرائعة التي عاشتها كرة القدم في كرواتيا، مثل فوزنا على إنجلترا أو البرازيل في كأس العالم.
وبعد توليه المسؤولية في عام 2017، قاد داليتش المنتخب الوطني في 111 مباراة، محققاً 62 فوزاً، كما احتل فريقه المركز الثاني في دوري الأمم الأوروبية في موسم 2022-2023.
وبإقالة داليتش، ارتفع عدد «ضحايا» كأس العالم 2026، من المدربين إلى 14 منذ أول إقالة التي كانت لمدرب منتخب تونس صبري لموشي، الذي انفصل عن منتخب نسور قرطاج بعد الخسارة في الجولة الأولى أمام السويد (5 ـ 1).
وخلال مشوار كرواتيا في كأس العالم الحالية، تأهل فريق المدرب داليتش (59 عاماً) إلى دور الـ32 بعد احتلاله المركز الثاني في المجموعة 12، على الرغم من الهزيمة (4-2) أمام إنجلترا، والفوز الصعب (1-0)على بنما، إضافة إلى الفوز على غانا (2 ـ 1).
After nine seasons of working within the corridors of the Croatian Football Federation, specifically with the national team, the journey and story of head coach "Zlatko Dalić" came to an end following the exit from the 2026 World Cup, as the Football Federation announced his resignation from his position as coach, less than a week after saying goodbye to the World Cup with a 2-1 loss to Portugal in the Round of 32.
During Dalić's time with the team, Croatia finished second in the 2018 World Cup and third in the 2022 edition in Qatar, but this time the team was eliminated in the Round of 32 after a dramatic match against Portugal.
For his part, Zlatko, who previously worked with the clubs Al-Faisaly and Al-Hilal, said: "When I took over the national team, I believed in the players' abilities and in myself, but I never imagined that we would achieve everything we have accomplished over these nearly nine years."
He added: "I cannot describe how proud I feel of every victory we achieved, of qualifying for major tournaments, of winning three medals, and of those wonderful nights that football experienced in Croatia, such as our victory over England or Brazil in the World Cup."
After taking charge in 2017, Dalić led the national team in 111 matches, achieving 62 victories, and his team finished second in the UEFA Nations League in the 2022-2023 season.
With Dalić's dismissal, the number of "victims" of the 2026 World Cup among coaches rose to 14 since the first dismissal, which was of Tunisia's coach Sabri Lamouchi, who parted ways with the Eagles of Carthage after losing in the first round to Sweden (5-1).
During Croatia's journey in the current World Cup, Dalić's team (59 years old) qualified for the Round of 32 after finishing second in Group 12, despite the loss (4-2) to England, the difficult win (1-0) over Panama, and the victory over Ghana (2-1).
