ودّع المنتخب السعودي منافسات كأس العالم 2026 من دور المجموعات، بعدما سقط في فخ التعادل السلبي أمام منتخب الرأس الأخضر، في المباراة التي جمعتهما على ملعب إن آر جي بمدينة هيوستن الأمريكية ضمن الجولة الثالثة والأخيرة من منافسات المجموعة.
ودخل الأخضر المواجهة وهو يدرك أن مصيره لا يزال بين يديه، لكن المباراة جاءت معقدة منذ دقائقها الأولى، وسط صراع بدني كبير وحذر واضح من الجانبين. وبدأت الإثارة مبكرًا عندما تلقى سعود عبدالحميد بطاقة صفراء في الدقيقة الرابعة، قبل أن يحصل ويليام بينا من منتخب الرأس الأخضر على بطاقة مماثلة بعد خمس دقائق فقط.
