أعلن الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا» إيقاف لاعب المنتخب القطري عاصم مادبو خمس مباريات دولية، على خلفية تدخله العنيف على لاعب المنتخب الكندي إسماعيل كوني خلال مواجهة المنتخبين في كأس العالم 2026.
وجاء قرار الإيقاف عقب الواقعة التي شهدتها مباراة قطر وكندا ضمن الجولة الثانية من منافسات المجموعة الثانية، والتي انتهت بخسارة المنتخب القطري بنتيجة 6-0، بعدما تسبب تدخل مادبو في إصابة كوني بكسر في الساق، قبل أن يُطرد بالبطاقة الحمراء المباشرة خلال مجريات الشوط الثاني.
وأوضح «فيفا» أن لجنة الانضباط قررت فرض عقوبة الإيقاف على مادبو بعد تصنيف الحالة ضمن المخالفات الجسيمة واللعب العنيف، مع إتاحة حق الاستئناف وفق الإجراءات المعتمدة لدى الاتحاد الدولي. وتشمل العقوبة المباراة التي غاب عنها اللاعب بالفعل أمام منتخب البوسنة والهرسك في ختام مشوار المنتخب القطري بدور المجموعات.
وكان إسماعيل كوني قد خضع لعملية جراحية عقب الإصابة التي تعرض لها في اللقاء، فيما حرص مادبو على زيارته في المستشفى للاطمئنان على حالته الصحية، في لفتة إنسانية أعقبت واحدة من أبرز الحوادث المؤثرة في النسخة الحالية من البطولة.
The International Football Federation "FIFA" announced the suspension of Qatari national team player Assim Madbou for five international matches, following his violent tackle on Canadian national team player Ismael Kone during the match between the two teams in the 2026 World Cup.
The suspension decision came after the incident that occurred in the match between Qatar and Canada in the second round of Group B competitions, which ended with the Qatari national team losing 6-0, after Madbou's tackle caused Kone to suffer a broken leg, before he was sent off with a direct red card during the second half.
FIFA clarified that the Disciplinary Committee decided to impose the suspension penalty on Madbou after classifying the incident as a serious violation and violent play, while allowing the right to appeal according to the procedures approved by the international federation. The penalty includes the match that the player already missed against the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team at the end of the Qatari team's group stage journey.
Ismael Kone underwent surgery following the injury he sustained in the match, while Madbou made sure to visit him in the hospital to check on his health condition, in a humanitarian gesture following one of the most significant incidents in the current edition of the tournament.
