بعد رحيل الثنائي كريم بنزيما وكانتي، إلى الهلال وفناربخشة التركي، دخل فريق الاتحاد في أزمة جديدة؛ بسبب غياب 8 لاعبين بداعي الإصابة قبل مواجهة الغرافة يوم الثلاثاء القادم ضمن منافسات الجولة السابعة من دور المجموعات بالنسخة الجارية من دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة؛ إذ كشف المركز الإعلامي لنادي الاتحاد، عبر بيان رسمي، أن اللاعبين فيصل الغامدي، صالح الشهري، ستيفن بيرغوين وسعد الموسى، ما زالوا يواصلون برنامجهم العلاجي في عيادة النادي.
من جانبه استعان مدرب الفريق «كونسيساو» بمجموعة من اللاعبين الشباب لسد غياب اللاعبين الثمانية واختيار اللاعبين الأساسيين للمواجهة الآسيوية الحاسمة، إذ يحتل الاتحاد المركز السادس بجدول ترتيب مجموعته برصيد 9 نقاط فيما يحتل فريق الغرافة المركز التاسع برصيد 6 نقاط، وفوزه يعني التأهل للدور الثاني من المسابقة.
