وكان بنزيما، الملقب بـ«الحكومة» قد طُلب منه خلال مشاركته في مسابقة ضمن بطولة كأس العالم للرياضات الإلكترونية، تصنيف نفسه ضمن أفضل المهاجمين على مر العصور، إذ وضع نفسه في القائمة خلف مثله الأعلى في الطفولة، البرازيلي رونالدو نازاريو.
صحفي يُقلل من تاريخ بنزيما
وأثار هذا الاختيار اعتراض الصحفي يوان ريو خلال ظهوره على قناة «ليكيب»، مصرحاً بأن كريم بنزيما «لم يكن ضمن أفضل 20 مهاجماً على مر العصور، وربما لم يكن حتى من بين أفضل 30».
رد ساخر من بنزيما
ورد بنزيما سريعاً، إذ كتب تحت الفيديو الذي نشرته القناة الفرنسية عبر حسابها على «إنستغرام»: «لقد تأخر الوقت، اذهب للنوم، ستستقيظ مبكراً».
غموض حول مستقبل بنزيما
وتحيط حالة من الغموض بمستقبل النجم الفرنسي الذي لعب لأولمبيك ليون وريال مدريد والاتحاد والهلال، بعد إنهاء تعاقده مع «الزعيم» هذا الشهر، بالتراضي بين الطرفين.

This choice sparked objections from journalist Yohan Riou during his appearance on the "L'Équipe" channel, stating that Karim Benzema "was not among the top 20 strikers of all time, and perhaps not even among the top 30."
