احتفظ منتخب إيطاليا بلقب بطولة العالم للكرة الطائرة للرجال للنسخة الثانية توالياً، عقب فوزه 3-1 على منتخب بلغاريا، اليوم (الأحد)، في المباراة النهائية للمسابقة التي استضافتها الفلبين.
جاءت نتائج الأشواط 25-21 و25-17 و17-25 و25-10، ليتوج المنتخب الإيطالي باللقب للمرة الخامسة في تاريخه، ويصبح على بعد لقب وحيد فقط ليشترك مع منتخب الاتحاد السوفييتي السابق في صدارة قائمة أكثر المنتخبات تتويجاً بلقب البطولة التي انطلقت نسختها الأولى عام 1949.
وسبق لمنتخب إيطاليا أن أحرز كأس البطولة أعوام 1990 و1994 و1998 بالبرازيل واليونان واليابان على الترتيب، والنسخة الماضية التي أقيمت في بولندا وسلوفينيا.
وقضى منتخب إيطاليا على أحلام منتخب بلغاريا في التتويج باللقب لأول مرة في تاريخه، في ظهوره الثاني بنهائي المسابقة، بعدما سبق أن صعد للدور ذاته في نسخة المسابقة عام 1970.

The Italian national team retained the title of the Men's Volleyball World Championship for the second consecutive edition, following their 3-1 victory over the Bulgarian team today (Sunday) in the final match of the tournament hosted by the Philippines.
The set scores were 25-21, 25-17, 17-25, and 25-10, allowing the Italian team to claim the title for the fifth time in its history, and they are now just one title away from tying with the former Soviet Union team at the top of the list of the most successful teams in the championship, which began its first edition in 1949.
Italy had previously won the championship in 1990, 1994, and 1998 in Brazil, Greece, and Japan respectively, as well as the last edition held in Poland and Slovenia.
