شهد اللقاء بداية قوية من أصحاب الأرض والجمهور نيوكاسل يونايتد وتمكن من التقدم بالنتيجة بعد أن تحصل على ركلة زاوية لعبها ساندرو تونالي قصيرة لزميله أنتوني جوردون ليعيدها له ويلعبها تونالي عالية ليحولها نيك فولتميد برأسه داخل المرمى هدفاً لنيوكاسل (د:34)، ومن ثم سيطر أرسنال على مجريات اللقاء ورد على هدف نيوكاسل بالطريقة ذاتها وفي الزاوية ذاتها والمرمى نفسه، بعد أن لعب ديكلان رايس ركلة زاوية قصيرة لزميله إيزي الذي لعبها للبديل أوديغارد ليعيدها لديكلان الذي لعبها عالية وحولها ميكيل ميرينو برأسه لداخل المرمى هدف تعادل لأرسنال (د:84)، وفي الوقت بدل الضائع ومن ركلة زاوية نفذها أوديغارد حول غابرييل الكرة برأسه لداخل شباك نيوكاسل هدفاً ثانياً لأرسنال (د:90+6)، لينتهي اللقاء بفوز أرسنال بهدفين لهدف.
وبهذه النتيجة يحقق أرسنال فوزه الرابع ويصل للنقطة 13 محتلاً المركز الثاني خلف المتصدر ليفربول بفارق نقطتين فقط، فيما تلقى نيوكاسل الخسارة الثانية وتجمد رصيده عند 6 نقاط في المركز الـ15.
