أكد مدرب ليفربول آرني سلوت، أن إدارة ناديه دفعت كامل قيمة عقد اللاعب البرتغالي الراحل ديوغو جوتا لعائلته، بعد وفاته المأساوية مطلع يوليو الماضي.
وكان جوتا قد توفي برفقة شقيقه أندريه سيلفا خلال رحلة من إسبانيا إلى إنجلترا، أثناء محاولتهما اللحاق بعبّارة للعودة إلى ليفربول.
عقد جوتا مع الريدز كان يتبقى له عامان عند وفاته، إذ زعمت تقارير برتغالية في وقت سابق من هذا الصيف أن النادي سيلتزم بكامل بنود عقده، وأكد سلوت هذه البادرة في حديثه عن وفاة المهاجم، كاشفاً أن مجموعة فينواي الرياضية دفعت كامل قيمة عقده لدعم عائلة اللاعب.
وقال سلوت في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة «ليفربول إيكو»: «ملاك النادي يتعرضون للانتقاد بشكل أساسي، مثل المديرين الفنيين، لكن الطريقة التي تعاملوا بها بعد وفاة جوتا، من خلال دفع قيمة العقد كاملة لزوجته وأطفاله أمر جدير بالثناء».
وقال المدرب الهولندي:«ربما يعتقد الناس أن هذا أمر طبيعي، لكنه ليس كذلك في كرة القدم».
Liverpool coach Arne Slot confirmed that his club's management paid the full value of the contract of the late Portuguese player Diogo Jota to his family, following his tragic death in early July.
Jota had died alongside his brother André Silva during a trip from Spain to England while trying to catch a ferry back to Liverpool.
At the time of his death, Jota had two years remaining on his contract with the Reds, and Portuguese reports earlier this summer claimed that the club would honor all the terms of his contract. Slot confirmed this gesture while discussing the striker's death, revealing that the Fenway Sports Group paid the full value of his contract to support the player's family.
Slot said in statements published by the "Liverpool Echo": "The club owners are primarily criticized, just like the coaches, but the way they handled things after Jota's death, by paying the full value of the contract to his wife and children, is commendable."
The Dutch coach added: "People might think this is normal, but it is not in football."
