أعلنت السلطات القضائية في الأرجنتين، أمس (الخميس)، عن بدء إجراءات اختيار قاضٍ جديد للانضمام إلى هيئة المحكمة المسؤولة عن محاكمة وفاة أسطورة كرة القدم دييغو أرماندو مارادونا، وذلك بعد تنحي القاضي أليخاندرو لاجو لأسباب صحية.
ويأتي هذا القرار في أعقاب إعلان إبطال المحاكمة الأولى في مايو 2025، بسبب فضيحة تورطت فيها القاضية خولييتا ماكينتاش، سط تكهنات بأن تختار المحكمة العليا في مقاطعة بوينس آيرس القاضي الجديد عبر القرعة، مع احتمال تأجيل المحاكمة الجديدة إلى عام 2026 بسبب الجدول القضائي المزدحم وتكتيكات التأخير من محامي الدفاع.
وبدأت محاكمة سبعة من أعضاء الفريق الطبي لمارادونا في 11 مارس، بتهمة القتل غير العمد بسبب الإهمال في رعايته، والتي أدت إلى وفاته في 25 نوفمبر 2020 عن عمر 60 عاماً، إثر نوبة قلبية أثناء تعافيه من جراحة لإزالة جلطة دماغية.
وتوقفت المحاكمة بعد شهرين عندما تنحت القاضية خولييتا ماكينتاش في 27 مايو، بعد اتهامها بانتهاك الأخلاقيات القضائية بسبب مشاركتها في تصوير وثائقي عن القضية بعنوان «العدالة الإلهية»، وأدت هذه الفضيحة إلى إبطال المحاكمة وإلغاء جميع الشهادات التي قُدمت، بما في ذلك شهادات من أفراد عائلة مارادونا وأكثر من 40 شاهدًا.
وفي يونيو الماضي، تم تعيين ثلاثة قضاة جدد، وهم روبرتو غايغ، أليخاندرو لاجو، وألبرتو أورتولاني، لتولي القضية، لكن لاجو، الذي كان يُعاني من مشاكل صحية مزمنة، وأعلن تنحيه قبل أيام، ما دفع السلطات القضائية إلى فتح إجراءات لاختيار بديل.

وأثارت وفاته موجة من الحزن في الأرجنتين وإيطاليا، حيث قاد نادي نابولي لتحقيق نجاحات غير مسبوقة في الثمانينات، وتتهم عائلته، بما في ذلك ابنتاه دالما وجيانينا، الفريق الطبي بترك مارادونا في ظروف «مظلمة ووحيدة» دون مراقبة كافية، بينما أشارت تقارير طبية إلى أنه عانى لمدة 12 ساعة قبل وفاته دون تلقي العلاج المناسب.

The judicial authorities in Argentina announced yesterday (Thursday) the start of procedures to select a new judge to join the court responsible for the trial regarding the death of football legend Diego Armando Maradona, following the resignation of Judge Alejandro Lago for health reasons.
This decision comes in the wake of the announcement to annul the first trial in May 2025, due to a scandal involving Judge Julieta Lascano, amid speculation that the Supreme Court of Buenos Aires Province might select the new judge by lottery, with the possibility of postponing the new trial until 2026 due to a busy judicial schedule and delay tactics from the defense attorneys.
The trial of seven members of Maradona's medical team began on March 11, on charges of involuntary manslaughter due to negligence in his care, which led to his death on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, from a heart attack while recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot.
The trial was halted two months later when Judge Julieta Lascano recused herself on May 27, after being accused of violating judicial ethics due to her involvement in filming a documentary about the case titled "Divine Justice." This scandal led to the annulment of the trial and the cancellation of all testimonies presented, including testimonies from Maradona's family members and more than 40 witnesses.
In June, three new judges were appointed: Roberto Gaig, Alejandro Lago, and Alberto Ortolani, to take over the case, but Lago, who was suffering from chronic health issues, announced his resignation a few days ago, prompting the judicial authorities to initiate procedures to select a replacement.
The lawsuit accuses the medical team, including neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque and psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, of providing "reckless and inadequate" care during Maradona's recovery period at home, which prosecutors described as a "horror scene." The defendants face potential penalties ranging from 8 to 25 years if convicted, while the medical team denies the charges, claiming that Maradona was a difficult patient who refused additional treatment.
Diego Maradona is considered one of the greatest football players in history, leading Argentina to win the 1986 World Cup and scoring legendary goals, including the "Hand of God" against England. He died in November 2020 while recovering from brain surgery in a rented house in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, under conditions described by investigations as "catastrophic."
His death sparked a wave of grief in Argentina and Italy, where he led Napoli to unprecedented successes in the 1980s. His family, including his daughters Dalma and Gianinna, accuses the medical team of leaving Maradona in "dark and lonely" conditions without adequate supervision, while medical reports indicated that he suffered for 12 hours before his death without receiving proper treatment.
The Lascano scandal has caused significant embarrassment for the Argentine judicial system, with local media describing the incident as a "judicial tragedy." Lago's resignation further complicates the case, which has attracted global attention from football fans, with expectations of delays in the new trial due to judicial schedules and complexities in the case, which involves more than 190 witnesses and 120,000 messages and audio recordings as evidence.
