The General Director of the Water and Sanitation Corporation in Socotra Archipelago, Abdulmalik bin Aqeel, confirmed that the generous and continuous developmental contributions from Saudi Arabia, through its developmental arm "The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen," have directly contributed to achieving complete stability in water services and ensuring daily access for more than 65,000 beneficiaries in various cities and areas of the archipelago.
Addressing the Effects of "Makunu"
Bin Aqeel explained in statements to "Okaz" that the water sector in the archipelago has witnessed a pivotal transformation since the launch of the humanitarian and developmental projects of "The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen" in 2018, specifically following the severe damage caused by Cyclone "Makunu," which affected water sources, washed away water barriers, and destroyed several main wells.

Strategic Stock and 65,000 Beneficiaries
He added that the program completed the water development system by establishing strategic reservoirs to increase storage capacity and preserve water produced from wells and natural springs, then redistribute and flow it to citizens, which positively reflected on the lives of the residents and beneficiaries, whose number exceeds 65,000 people.
Sustainability of Operations and Network Upgrades
Bin Aqeel indicated that Saudi support was not limited to infrastructure construction, drilling wells, and equipping them with pumps and generators, but extended to ensuring the sustainability of daily operations by continuously supplying the corporation with oil derivatives up to this moment, which has created unprecedented qualitative stability in water pumping. He noted that the program also provided logistical support by financing and supplying various water pipes through which the old, dilapidated galvanized iron networks were replaced with modern high-pressure sanitary pipes in several vital areas.
