The municipality of Hebron in the occupied West Bank revealed that the number of those forcibly displaced by the Israeli occupation army from the areas of "Deir Bahar and Al-Jalda" has risen to 4,969 Palestinians, since its incursion into the city for the fifth consecutive day.
Catastrophic Humanitarian Consequences
The municipality stated in a statement on Tuesday that the total number of displaced families has reached 780, warning of the increasing humanitarian consequences for the most vulnerable groups in need of care; the number includes 336 infants, 441 elderly individuals, 216 pregnant and nursing women, in addition to 44 persons with disabilities, and 312 individuals suffering from chronic illnesses.
The developments come in the wake of an attack carried out by two Palestinians last Friday, which resulted in the death of two Israeli soldiers and the injury of three others, as well as the martyrdom of the attackers. The Israeli army imposed a strict closure on Hebron and its villages.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz admitted on Saturday evening that thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave their homes, asserting that they would not be able to return until the "infrastructure of Hamas" in the city is dismantled, as he claimed, which Palestinian officials considered a "revenge" operation targeting civilians.
On the ground, the occupation forces continue to raid neighborhoods in the city and storm homes, while restricting the movement of citizens and obstructing the delivery of aid to besieged families.
The Palestinian news agency (Wafa) reported that the occupation arrested nine Palestinians during raids in the city of Hebron and the towns of Dura, Al-Samu, and Yatta.
Developments in Nablus and Bethlehem
In Nablus, in the northern West Bank, the occupation army demolished, on Tuesday, eight memorial structures commemorating Palestinian martyrs who fell during various stages of struggle since the "Battle of Karameh" in 1968.
A young man was injured by live ammunition in his foot near the Huwara military checkpoint south of the city, where he was taken by Red Crescent teams and transferred to the hospital for treatment.
In the southern West Bank, the occupation forces raided the town of Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem, and arrested a young man after storming his home and tampering with its contents.
This comes amid an unprecedented escalation of attacks by the army and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since the onset of the genocide war on Gaza in October 2023.
International Delegation Prevented from Entering the West Bank
Politically, Israeli authorities prevented an international delegation comprising 23 parliamentarians, politicians, and academics from entering the West Bank to participate in an international conference at Birzeit University titled "Global South Solidarity and Resistance to Imperialism." The banned delegation included prominent figures such as members of the British, Scottish, and Spanish parliaments.
Meanwhile, 60 members of the European Parliament sent an urgent message on Monday evening to the EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, calling for a meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers to discuss imposing sanctions on the Israeli government. The MPs emphasized in their message that the Israeli actions in the West Bank amount to "collective punishment" and constitute a war crime aimed at entrenching the occupation.
