Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the attacks targeting the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which affected Abha Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, resulting in casualties and injuries among civilians. It emphasized that the escalation targeting the security and stability of the Kingdom represents a threat to the security and stability of the region as a whole.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad stated in a statement issued on Thursday that Cairo denounces the assaults on Saudi territory, affirming its support for the Kingdom in facing any threats that could jeopardize its security or affect its stability. Egypt stressed the necessity of putting an end to these assaults and adhering to the rules of international law, while respecting the sovereignty of states and the integrity of their territories, in light of the recent developments that pose risks to regional security and stability.
Egypt is monitoring the situation of injured Egyptians
In this context, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is monitoring the situation of Egyptian citizens who were injured as a result of the attacks, directing the consular sector of the ministry and the Egyptian embassy in Riyadh to continue coordinating with the relevant authorities in the Kingdom to follow up on their condition and provide the necessary consular support. According to what was announced by the General Authority of Civil Aviation yesterday (Wednesday), the attack on Abha International Airport resulted in the deaths of two residents of Moroccan and Algerian nationalities and injured 28 people, while the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh led to the death of a Sudanese resident and injured 8 people, including citizens and residents, among them two Egyptians. The authority clarified that the injured were transferred to hospitals for medical care, while the relevant authorities began assessing the damages and taking necessary measures to ensure the safety of travelers and workers at the two airports.
The coalition announces the destruction of 82 targets in Yemen
In a military development related to the attacks, the spokesman for the Coalition Forces Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced that the coalition's joint forces carried out a wide-ranging attack targeting sites belonging to the Houthi group in Yemen. Al-Maliki stated that the operation resulted, according to what the coalition reported, in the destruction of 82 military targets in the provinces of Saada, Hodeidah, Al-Jawf, and Marib, explaining that the targets included facilities linked to missile capabilities, command and control centers, communication systems, missile and weapon storage, and headquarters belonging to the group. He added that the operation included the destruction of 11 ballistic missile storage facilities in mountainous areas in Saada province, also pointing to the destruction of a platform for launching ballistic missiles that he said was used to target Riyadh. The coalition spokesman confirmed that the assaults targeting civilians and civilian objects in the Kingdom "will not go unpunished," according to what Saudi media reported from his statement.
Cairo: Saudi security is part of regional security
The Egyptian condemnation comes as part of Cairo's declared position supporting the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, as Egypt affirmed in its statement that the threat to the security and stability of the Kingdom does not only affect Saudi internal affairs but extends to the security and stability of the entire region. Cairo also called for respect for the rules of international law, the sovereignty of states, and the integrity of their territories, alongside consular efforts to monitor the situation of Egyptian citizens injured in the attacks.
