The spokesperson for the Iraqi Security Media Cell, Lieutenant General Saad Ma'an, announced on (Monday) that Iraq has taken over the main headquarters of the American forces at Baghdad International Airport, confirming an agreement with Turkey regarding the withdrawal of its military forces from the Bashiqa base in Nineveh Governorate.
Ma'an confirmed the possibility of continuing security cooperation with international partners based on mutual respect, which preserves the independence of the Iraqi decision, noting that the government has become the ultimate authority and sole decision-maker in determining the nature of military and security presence on Iraqi territory.
The spokesperson for the Security Media Cell stated that enhancing Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with its independent management of its security file, constitutes the fundamental pillar for the stability of the country and advancing its regional and international relations towards broader horizons of fruitful cooperation.
For his part, the commander of the Iraqi Air Force, Lieutenant General Pilot Khaled Al-Tamimi, confirmed that there has been no coalition forces conducting missions within Iraqi territory since the beginning of 2026, indicating that all air duties within Iraq are carried out completely independently of the international coalition.
He explained that Iraqi drones have replaced coalition aircraft in reconnaissance missions, and that a complete aerial survey is conducted daily across all Iraqi territories, noting that the Air Force has carried out 58,822 missions during the war against ISIS gangs.
Al-Tamimi affirmed that the threat of terrorism is currently very limited, thanks to the vigilance of citizens and security and air capabilities, revealing negotiations with other countries to acquire advanced aircraft, including "Rafale," with the aim of building a larger air force that holds a distinguished position in the region.
He pointed out that there are attempts for local manufacturing of drones and the establishment of a special command for this weapon.
Iraq is expected to close the chapter on cooperation with the international coalition to support Iraq in fighting ISIS on the 30th of this month, ending the presence of combat forces, and transitioning to bilateral relations based on agreements with some coalition countries to support armament programs, train security forces, and enhance their readiness to face challenges.
Yesterday, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service announced the killing of two terrorists wearing explosive belts and the arrest of a third terrorist in the Altun Kupri area of Kirkuk Governorate.
