Yemeni civil society organizations revealed today (Saturday) a serious escalation in the violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians, confirming the monitoring of cases of children who were forcibly recruited by the militia and sent to the front lines of combat, with some of them being captured in the fronts of Taiz, the western coast, Marib, and Al-Jawf.
The organizations stated in a joint statement today that the recent military escalation on the coast was accompanied by widespread violations that included killing, kidnapping, arbitrary detention, forced displacement, house demolitions, and targeting civilian vehicles, in addition to sniping and shelling that affected residential neighborhoods, villages, and health and educational facilities.

They pointed out that children were at the forefront of the victims of these violations, through their recruitment and involvement in combat activities, depriving them of their basic rights. They emphasized that the recruitment of children or their use in hostilities constitutes a war crime whenever its legal elements are met.
The organizations documented the targeting of a gathering of displaced persons in the Raghwan district of Marib governorate with a ballistic missile on September 7, resulting in the deaths of two children aged 5 and 7 and injuring 15 civilians, including 8 children, in addition to damaging 16 houses and 3 civilian vehicles.
They also mentioned the shelling of populated villages in Taiz and the targeting of the December 2 Hospital in the city of Al-Mokha with a ballistic missile on the same day, confirming that civilian and medical sites are protected under international humanitarian law.
According to the statement, the recent military operations have led to the displacement of 2,183 families from Taiz and Al-Hudaydah as of September 5, including 1,643 families comprising 8,896 individuals in Taiz, and 450 families in Al-Hudaydah, amid urgent needs for shelter, food, water, healthcare, and protection.
The organizations warned of the transfer of Houthi violations to African migrants, accusing the militia of recruiting them and exploiting their vulnerable situations by sending them to the front lines of combat. They also warned of the continued threat to international navigation and ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, considering this a threat to regional and international security and peace, as well as the global economy.
They called on the United Nations and the Security Council to take practical measures to protect civilians, stop the recruitment of children, exploit migrants, and threaten navigation, enhance investigation and accountability mechanisms, and prevent impunity, alongside supporting programs for the demobilization of recruited children and migrants, their rehabilitation, and reintegration.
