هز انفجار قوي الحي السياحي التاريخي في وسط العاصمة اليونانية أثينا، اليوم (الجمعة)، متسبباً في انهيار مبنى سكني مكون من طابقين، وإصابة ثلاثة أشخاص، فضلاً عن إلحاق أضرار بعدد من المنازل والمتاجر والسيارات في المنطقة.
ووقع الانفجار في حي بلاكا، أحد أشهر المناطق السياحية في أثينا، بالقرب من عدد من أبرز المعالم الأثرية، بينها الأكروبوليس ومعبد زيوس، فيما لم تتضح حتى الآن أسباب الانفجار.
وتسبب دوي الانفجار في تطاير الصخور وقطع الزجاج لمسافة امتدت إلى نحو ثلاثة شوارع من موقع الحادثة، بينما غطت سحب الدخان المنطقة المحيطة بالمعالم الأثرية الشهيرة.
فرق الإنقاذ تتدخل
وسارعت فرق الإطفاء وسيارات الإسعاف إلى موقع الانفجار، فيما باشرت السلطات عمليات الفحص والتحقيق للوقوف على ملابسات الحادث.
وقالت المتحدثة باسم الشرطة اليونانية، كونستانتينا ديموغليدو، لهيئة الإذاعة العامة «ERT»، إن فرق الإطفاء لم تنتهِ بعد من معاينة موقع الانفجار، وبالتالي لم يتم تحديد سببه بصورة نهائية.
وأظهرت المشاهد من موقع الحادثة، المبنى وقد تحول إلى أنقاض، مع أجزاء معدنية ملتوية وشرفات محطمة وكتل خرسانية معلقة، بينما انتشرت آثار الدمار في المنطقة المحيطة.
ووصف أحد السكان المحليين، قوة الانفجار قائلًا إنه بدا وكأن المبنى والكتلة السكنية بأكملها قد تعرضا للانفجار.
مصابون وإنقاذ امرأتين
وأفادت السلطات بإصابة أحد المارة جراء الانفجار، فيما تمكنت فرق الإنقاذ من إخراج امرأتين كانتا عالقتين داخل مبنى مجاور.
ونُقلت المرأتان إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج، بينما لم توضح السلطات على الفور مدى خطورة الإصابات.
وبحسب مصدر في الشرطة، كان يقيم في المبنى الذي وقع فيه الانفجار خمسة أشخاص على الأقل، فيما كان جزء من العقار مؤجرًا للسياح.
ولم يكن من الواضح حتى الآن ما إذا كان هناك أشخاص آخرون محاصرون داخل المبنى المتضرر، في وقت تواصل فيه فرق الطوارئ أعمال البحث والتأكد من سلامة المنطقة.
منطقة مكتظة بالسياح
ويُعد حي بلاكا من أكثر المناطق جذباً للسياح في أثينا، ويضم عدداً كبيراً من الفنادق وأماكن الإقامة قصيرة الأجل، إلى جانب المقاهي والمتاجر ومحلات بيع الهدايا.
وتشهد شوارعه الضيقة عادة حركة كثيفة من السياح، خصوصاً لقربها من الأكروبوليس ومواقع أثرية بارزة أخرى.
وأثار الانفجار حالة من الارتباك في المنطقة، بينما تواصل السلطات عمليات الفحص لتحديد سبب الانفجار وتقييم حجم الأضرار التي لحقت بالمباني والممتلكات المجاورة.
A powerful explosion shook the historic tourist district in the center of the Greek capital, Athens, today (Friday), causing the collapse of a two-story residential building, injuring three people, and damaging several homes, shops, and cars in the area.
The explosion occurred in the Plaka neighborhood, one of the most famous tourist areas in Athens, near several prominent archaeological sites, including the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus, while the reasons for the explosion remain unclear.
The sound of the explosion sent rocks and shards of glass flying up to about three streets away from the site of the incident, while clouds of smoke covered the area surrounding the famous archaeological landmarks.
Rescue teams intervene
Firefighting teams and ambulances rushed to the explosion site, while authorities began inspection and investigation operations to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Greek police spokesperson Konstantina Dimoglido told the public broadcaster "ERT" that the firefighting teams had not yet finished examining the explosion site, and thus the cause had not been definitively determined.
Footage from the site of the incident showed the building reduced to rubble, with twisted metal parts, shattered balconies, and hanging concrete blocks, while signs of destruction spread in the surrounding area.
One local resident described the force of the explosion, saying it felt as if the building and the entire residential block had been blown up.
Injured and rescue of two women
Authorities reported that one passerby was injured due to the explosion, while rescue teams managed to extract two women who were trapped inside a neighboring building.
The two women were taken to the hospital for treatment, while authorities did not immediately clarify the severity of their injuries.
According to a police source, at least five people were residing in the building where the explosion occurred, with part of the property rented to tourists.
It was not yet clear if there were other people trapped inside the damaged building, as emergency teams continued their search and ensured the safety of the area.
A tourist-heavy area
The Plaka neighborhood is one of the most attractive areas for tourists in Athens, featuring a large number of hotels and short-term accommodations, along with cafes, shops, and gift stores.
Its narrow streets usually witness heavy tourist traffic, especially due to its proximity to the Acropolis and other prominent archaeological sites.
The explosion caused confusion in the area, while authorities continued inspection operations to determine the cause of the explosion and assess the extent of the damage to nearby buildings and properties.
