The head of the National State Forces Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim, revealed today (Tuesday) that Iraq is experiencing a liquidity crisis due to the decline in oil production and exports, on which the country relies for 94% of its budget, calling for the expansion of foreign investments and diversification of revenues to overcome this phase.
Al-Hakim stated during a press conference held after his meeting with the local government in Babil province that "Iraq has been affected by regional developments and events, which led to a decline in oil production and exports," urging a reduction in current expectations and ambitions, and clarifying the nature of the exceptional phase to the public without inciting fear and panic, while emphasizing that the crisis is a liquidity crisis and not a crisis of capabilities and resources.
He pointed to the government's plans to increase oil production capacity, stressing the importance of understanding Iraq's need for foreign investments and relying on strategic partnerships that serve national interests first and contribute to maximizing revenues and initiating reconstruction and development processes.
Al-Hakim also called on local governments to "diversify their revenue sources to bring about a developmental revolution in the provinces," noting the "importance of investing in archaeological and civilizational areas in Babil to activate the tourism sector, coinciding with the government's focus on specific provinces to achieve a developmental leap before moving on to the rest of the provinces."
